Classic Video Thread (pre-2008)

What you are about to see is a video containing reports done by Joe Collum who reported on the county commission in Tampa. Throughout the video, you can see some WTVT opens starting with an 11pm news open at the beginning, a Pulse 13 First News open at 8:06 and a 6pm news open at 12:34.

And we take you back to the mid 1980s where WYMT in Hazard, KY used this news theme until the mid 1990s.

The Chris Sloan archive gravy train keeps giving. There's even some rare KHJ from 1988! The 9:00 VO at the time would later do a lot of ABC Sports work in the late 80s and 90s. The 1:00 one was a

You are in for a special treat, because YouTube user 'VPR2B' has uploaded the KTXL NewsPlus music package from 1981.

Thanks to Mr. Sloan, Christmas came early for me in terms of late 80s Houston content...   Some observations follow as well.   A weekend newscast & a midday newscast from KHOU

Those WTVT opens have resemblances to KETV’s 1983 graphics package:

Definitely the same company.

Also at the end of the first open you can see that WFTS is being broadcast on the first monitor behind Terry Casey (their “28” logo intact).

For a time, back when they were still an independent, KMPH aired a midday newscast at 11:30am in addition to their 10pm newscast. Here's a broadcast from February 6, 1985:

Huh. Apparently during the first era of ViacomCBS, BET had a nightly newscast powered by CBS News:

Logo TV also had a newscast during that time. Ross Palombo was the anchor.

Another Phoenix video, this time bits and pieces of KPNX -- the only station not to change affiliations in the '94/'95 shuffle -- from January 1996:

And some from October 1994:

Here's a really neat WJZ 1992 Eyewitness News opening I just saw; might be of particular interest to the ID Junkie for an update to the WJZ package.

With the slogan in the image campaign promo at 3:44, it probably is safe to say the news music package known at WTVT 1983 Theme should probably be titled “Where News Comes First”. Who knows they probably had been using it since 1982 just like WFLA’s “Spirit of Tampa Bay” theme was discovered as starting that year too.
