WWUpdate 1290
Some really great uploads by btm0815ma; the clips are wonderfully curated and the descriptions have obviously been written by someone with deep knowledge of the history of TV news in this country. Do we know who btm0815ma is? Is he or she a member of this forum? Thank you for all your work if you're reading this.

newsteam13 365
From Friday night, September 2, 1983. The LAST 30-minute MacNeil/Lehrer report with that groovy funky Bernard Hoffer theme (wah-wah guitar, bongo drums, etc) From the following Monday night, September 5, 1983. The FIRST Hour-Long MacNeil/Lehrer NEWSHOUR with the updated, more symphonic Bernard Hoffer theme (done by an orchestra).

The FIRST Hour-Long MacNeil/Lehrer NEWSHOUR with the updated, more symphonic Bernard Hoffer theme (done by an orchestra). Was just coming here to post thereto-- you beat me to it! Noticed that on the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour broadcast, no announcement is made by either MacNeil or Lehrer about the change of direction/focus (that the former MacNeil/Lehrer Report of a half-hour is now an expanded MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour [albeit Robert MacNeil did note at the bottom of the MacNeil/Lehrer Report of 9/2/83 that such a change would be effective w/the broadcast of 9/5/83, which is, incidentally, a bit of celebrity trivia, in that the date of debut of the NewsHour was also the 54th birthday of Bob Newhart]). newsteam13 365
SEPTEMBER 9, 1985 - The Debut of the NEW and IMPROVED NBC News, Starting with Nightly News with Tom Brokaw. It had the Statue of Liberty opening and closing. It had the anchor desk with newsroom in the background. That was where Brokaw delivered the day's news, while the working behind-the-scenes crew was seen in the background. And, of course, this was also the WORLD PREMIERE of the longest-running theme music in the history of NBC News. The start of something badass that lasted 35 years. I'm talking about The Mission Theme from NBC News by John Williams. The music is still going strong today with brothaman Lester Holt at the helm (Holt the first African-American to be sole anchor of a network evening newscast). What a first night it was for NBC News.
