The oldest newscast on file at KTRK — August 23, 1978:

They've been adding a fair amount of vintage material in the recent past. Some are parts of newscasts while others are the full ones... minus the close in some cases.

5/11/1976 - The infamous ammonia cloud in Southwest Houston

2/2/1980 - Clips from a weekend newscast

5/15/1980 - The Late Report

5/16/1980 - Live at Five

And more from the above...

5/17/1982 - Eyewitness News Tonight

5/16/1983 - Eyewitness News Tonight

5/20/1983 - Eyewitness News Tonight

5/19/1987 - Eyewitness News Tonight (No commercials, but during the breaks you can see how shots were set up with the virtual set)

From France, Antenne 2's 8 p.m. news on today's date 40 years ago -- the extended pan at the beginning provides an interesting look behind the scenes of the studio (including the makeup area):

From France: TF1's opener of the newsmagazine Le droit de savoir (The Right to Know) in 1997.

More vintage clips.

Wow. That's some serious nostalgia. The chemistry is just pouring out of that desk!

Today (May 23rd) marks 70 years since WCAU-TV channel 10 signed on the air in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia. To celebrate, here is a WCAU open from 1977.

A KTVU report from presumably December 1988 by anchor Elaine Corral on Pixar's third annual Christmas party, after which she roasts Pixar laser scanner technician Don Conway. Pressing play will take you right to this report, which is part of a compilation of videos made for Pixar's 1988 Christmas party, which appears on the recently-uploaded DVD titled Made in Point Richmond.

Apparently KLAS’ “News Image” period was split up into two parts, with this being the second half. This also must’ve been the tail end of that “8” before they changed their logo.

They must have one of us as an intern this summer posting these 'on this day in x' newscasts. Great stuff.

Argentinian TV news clips from Thursday, February 26, 1998, the day after the band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs won a Grammy award.

I'm posting this because at the beginning of each video there are pieces of the graphic packages of the newscasts.

Canal 13

Telefe

América 2

I am posting this, because this is some of the rarest clips of KXAS you'll ever find.

News opens from 1984 are at :14 and 1:19. The opens feature an unknown theme and some amazing graphics used during the final years of "Action News."

But that's not all. Jack Trammell's YouTube channel also has this rare video from KFDX.

News open can be seen at 5:56.

And this...

News open can be seen at 8:06. KFDX used Tap Root Manuscript during the 1980s.

Oh and one more...

News open with ID can be seen at 9:56.
