A donut filled: the WHNT noon news in 1986:

A second use of the WDBB 1986 theme, too...pretty cool stuff.

Also from that channel...more We're Your Kind of People, not long after it debuted. This is the best quality sample of it I've seen yet!

WPIX posted a couple minutes of their 10PM newscast from August 14th, 2003, the day of the 2003 Northeast Blackout, noting that most people couldn't actually watch it as their power was out.

Even though there's a very good chance they were running on generator power, you can't even tell that's the case.

Now those are some cool finds. Definitely the oldest significant Savannah material I've seen. 'JCL really didn't seem to put much effort into that open though...and speaking of which, there goes the NMSA's start date for WJCL using the synth WNT theme.

That WTOC Eleven Live plug though... "2 3 4 N E W S, 2 3 4 N E W S!"

KVOA August 1996 10pm with Savannah Guthrie....and one of the latest dated, or the latest seen uses of the Gari Cool Hand Luke package

correction...

Looks like they still used the 90s WLS update as late as late 2000, with the Cool Hand Luke melody, which I thought was the subject of a royalty dispute / rate increase that caused most stations to dump it in the mid 90s in favor of version that stripped the melody.

Some additional finds from the Kansas City area, the first three come from WDAF-TV:

WDAF weekend 5 p.m. open from October 1992, featuring former WBRC anchor Karen Church (uploaded by tvmattkc):

WDAF news update from a morning break in NBC's coverage of the 1992 Summer Olympics, anchored by Sue Abrams and featuring now-KSHB chief meteorologist Gary Lezak [back when he still had hair] (uploaded by tvmattkc):

A reel of WDAF promos from an unknown date [on either a Saturday or Sunday] in 1992 (uploaded by tvmattkc):

WDAF Sunday 10 p.m. newscast from 1993, anchored by Larry Blunt. Also features a portion of The Kansas City Sports Machine with Frank Boal (uploaded by pannoni 8):

Footnote: Having looked at the WDAF clips, IMHO, I'm questioning why the station dumped its 1992 graphics when it switched to Fox. The graphics introduced along with the Newschannel 4 brand were actually kind of superior for a mid-market station in the early 1990s; the graphics used for its first year as a Fox affiliate were OK (the open was cool, but the rest of the look was so-so), but kinda pale in comparison to the 1992-94 look and what I have seen of the station's 1995-97 graphics package.

Along with those, here are some mid-90s clips from KCTV and KSHB:

KCTV 5 p.m. open from September 20, 1994, anchored by Valissa Smith and the late Wendall Anschutz (uploaded by VHSgoodiesWA):

And, KSHB 10 p.m. open from August 4, 1996, following the Closing Ceremonies of the Atlanta Summer Olympics, anchored by Elizabeth Alex and Tom Lawrence (uploaded by tvmattkc):

Two more Klein& videos from eyeontv's channel. First is a demo reel dated to 1982 that includes everything from some other Klein& uploads displayed elsewhere on the channel (such as a 1979 WPLG promo and the flying logo sequence set to Direct Connection) to a 3-minute year-end video for the short-lived pay channel Spotlight

The other is a series of short "10 is" ID's for WCAU circa 1980

The former head of the New York chapter of NOW posted a long video of several interviews she did on Albany TV in 1997. The quality varies but some gems are in there.

  • 0:00-1:10 has an interesting use of Prime News (on the Sunday interview/live music{!!} program "See, Hear") and a WNYT promo. Sadly the video and audio are choppy.
  • 16:50-20:20 has a WRGB report on a contingent to a Promise Keepers rally in DD, and a good example of their final image using Making a Difference.
  • 22:25-24:10 has a very odd WRGB transition, a clipped WNYT intro, a good example of WNYT's 1994-97 image, and their backdrop when it looked cool.
  • 24:10-31:53 is from several months later with WRGB and WNYT (post-switch to NBC Stations) coverage on the Marv Albert trial.
