To celebrate New Year, here's the news from TF1 in France on today's date exactly 30 years ago -- a snowy January 1, 1979 (the clip takes a few seconds to load):

Note the thoroughly psychedelic open and those wonderful 2CVs!

Happy New Year!

This clip is of Ara Parseghian with Brent Musburger on a program called "The NCAA Today" from 1982; apparently, as far as content and format were concerned, this was the precursor to "The Prudential College Football Report" that Jim Nantz would present starting in 1985 (if I'm not incorrect, the "College Football Report" gave Jim Nantz his start at CBS Sports, according to Nantz's recent book).

CMSLoan2002's Youtube page has lots of news opens and some montages.

Check it out if you have the chance, his page is impressive when it comes to news opens and clips.

What's even more impressive is that a lot of his clips are "clean".

WPDE open from 1983 (with a young Jeff Morrow from The Weather Channel doing weather)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ2xR_thUvs&feature=related

I saw that opening, and several others from the page of which it is a part (wpdehistory), and while the aforementioned opening was good, one of the best (at least in my opinion) was the 1990 opening of "Action News 15." Not only was the opening music top-notch, but the opening announcement (by, I believe, Charlie Van Dyke) was short and sweet-- no beating around the bush: "Now...from the eastern Carolinas' live news leader...this is WPDE's Action News 15." The opening seemed to reflect the station ID jingle, "Action News Is Everywhere," with visuals that showed WPDE's news team all around the area putting a newscast together, reporting from different places in the area, etc.

Here's the clip:

I love that one, and WPDE's 1996 open is even better... he needs to get it up.
