You're probably familiar with this 1970s promo for

...well, here's a (far inferior, IMHO) version that aired on WCBS in NYC:

The great names of WCBS - Roland Smith, Jim Jenson, John Stossel and...

...John Tesh?

heh.

Even in the 70s he had ginormous hair.

60 wonderful years of KTLA opens.. the 5th one holds a special meaning for me as i grew up with it for the better part of 5 years. I still get chills down my spine cause that open is too damn cool.

I think most people who watched KTLA in the 90's felt the same way too. I didn't really care much for the newscast in the 1980's, seeing as how KABC sucked the competition dry, but Hal and Jan and later Terry and Lynette were the team to watch.

More KDFW from this era...

Late Talent Bump:

...with what may be - I don't know, I'm just saying - what may be a very cleverly placed subliminal 4 (see attachment) about 10 seconds in (between John Criswell and Mike Burger). Don't know whether it was intentional or not, but very nice.

What a great compilation. Thanks for the link!

I've just read on Wikipedia that George Putnam "was widely believed to be the inspiration for the character of Ted Baxter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show." That was precisely my thought when I saw Putnam at 1:18 in this compilation!

BTW, Kevin Sanders (at 0:35) was a high-profile anchor in Australia in the early days of Aussie television.
