The NBC promos on the first part of that used two different closed-captioning icons-- the one for The Cosby Show had the new-style late-80s version usually seen on CBS shows, and the Family Ties one had the old-style one generally seen on NBC and ABC.

CNN coverage featuring behind the scenes footage (1986)

WABC never had the best sets or graphics but they had a solid news team.

The second one is a specific service mark for the National Captioning Institute. It must be the case that NCI did not caption Cosby but captioned Family Ties (I found a 1986 newspaper article mentioning they captioned the latter).

New Beta finds!

KSTW Ten O'Clock News open, 1/17/88 with Rod Simons

And a KIRO Eyewitness News open from 10/15/1984, which includes the KIRO 'NewsJet', a younger Susan Hutchison, John Marler, and highlights of the Spellman-Gardner gubernatorial debate.

NOTE FOR H-TOWN...I just recently got another small lot of Betamax tapes, they came from Kansas but the TV footage seems to be from the Houston area. Some great KHOU newscasts to share soon from the late 1980s. Maybe more, as I have several left to inventory.

And here's more on the captioning on The Cosby Show (1986 article from The New York Times):

Wow WPXI got a lot of mileage out of that set - looks like it was basically untouched through 2001/2, got a facelift by 2003, and lasted until they moved to a new building in the late 2000s.

From the Big Guava! Former WFLA director Mark Antinori posted his first video in 8 years. The last one was our first view of the 1981 The Look...Alive Gapped 8 logo in action.

These are promo spots for the launch of then-new hourlong 5pm newscast Live at Five with a misspelling in the promos (can you find it?) and some promos for their 11pm newscasts. All the promos were mixed between Fall 1988 when they were the “awkward" WXFL call letters and the New Year's Day 1989 call letter reversion back to WFLA-TV.

At the 5:27:48 mark of this packed Internet Archive video are clips of a 2004 KXLY newscast (if anyone knows the exact date of this, let me know and I will edit accordingly), with Signature as their music package and Sean Caldwell voicing the open (apparently Bill Ratner was dropped for a few years before returning the following year):

A commercial break from then WB affiliate WBFX-TV (Now CW affilate WCWG-TV.), in Lexington/Winston-Salem/Greensboro &  High Point, NC, from August 10, 2000, just 18 days before they changed their callsign to WTWB-TV. At the time, they were owned by Pappas Telecasting (Now owned by Hearst & a sister station to WXII-TV.) & had cheap, primitive graphics.

A new find direct from Beta - about 5 minutes of ABC World News Sunday taped 9/14/1997 with Carole Simpson. Wonder how long ABC used this graphics package as I don't recognize it.

And some re-uploads from pre-YT termination... KOMO News 4 at 11 4/17/95, where only one person at the anchor desk (Steve Pool) is still alive today. Kathi, Eric, and Bruce are all up in the skies now.

And CNN NewsNight from 1/4/89 - Patrick Emory and Donna Kelley anchoring. Other CNN shows from that night have been reposted, including Crossfire and Moneyline.

A little less than 2 years, from 1996-98, though the weekend show might've used it a bit longer than Jennings' weekday program.
