This is a treat -- a complete WLS 10 p.m. Christmas Eve broadcast from 1983, the tail end of the (Seven's) On Your Side era -- and Alan Krashesky with the weather:

By the way, is that a temporary set or a secondary one they used for the weekend news? Here's their main 10 p.m. set from earlier in 1983:

Temporary. They vacated the main set sometime after November sweeps, and with tonights upload, basically confirmed that News Series 2000, new anchor assignments, and the KABC-style set debuted after Christmas, but likely right on January 2nd, 1984.

I just noticed that they created the temporary set by combining the main news desk with the backdrop used by 4:30:

The other best part on that '83 WLS Eyewitness News weekend late edition was the end-title music; we heard more of it here than in that evening edition from earlier in that year (the mayoral election) when it was on YouTube.

And something to look for-- in the billing at the top, the announcer says "Jim Rose, sport"; the announcer also sounded a shade robotic, it seems to me.

And things improved really quickly - forgot Bill Applegate was brought in a few months before Swanson brought his KABC playbook. Here's part of a Feb 84 article that talks about his changes (including daily 'discrepancy reports' for on air technical glitches).

LONG promo for KUSA Denver back in 1985. This was after the call letter change from KBTV to KUSA in 1984, while channel 9 was STILL an ABC affiliate (now an NBC affiliate since September 1995).

I noticed the same visuals were used in another KUSA promo, which had the song God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood.

Whoa they went really literal with the 'USA' branding at the outset

Over three hours worth of footage from KIRO-TV in 1985, including two more "Spirit of the Northwest" promos - the first one at 4:36 using the remixed Klein& cut, the second at 22:13 used one of the original cuts:

Plus some newsbreaks and promos (including another "Spirit of the Northwest" promo with that remix in Part 1 of the set) from the same year:
