KCCI in 1986 — and it's not Good News! (Well, it's good news if you like 80s news themes...)

The theme is a custom called "Be A Part of it All". It has at least two image songs:

It was also short lived — introduced either in late 1985 or early 1986 (potentially coinciding with new studios for KCCI in October 1985) and ousted sometime between late 1986 and early 1987 (when the station adopted Spirit of Texas).

I posted that already lol. And I actually pinged you as well.

Goodness, it's another one of those logos (see: KDLH, WIFR)...

Here's a WILX weather bump from 1986:

And a WOTV news promo from the same year:

Speaking of that market... Friday night high school football on an ABC affiliate in 1988? Was WUHQ expecting viewers who wanted to see Friday ABC shows to just tune elsewhere?

17 years ago today, NBC moved affiliations in the San Francisco Bay Area. The result was all three (later four) networks owning a Bay Area TV station, KRON not only losing NBC but also ratings, and Young Broadcasting ending up in bankruptcy by the end of the decade due to its KRON purchase.

Yeah it was the BIGGEST shakeup in Bay Area TV. They also dropped The WB prior to this newscast aired on ch. 11.

An excerpt of the Satellite News Channel from New Year's Day 1983. SNC was a short-lived CNN competitor from ABC and Group W; it was eventually bought by Ted Turner and "merged" with CNN (it effectively closed down):

Happy New Year!

No ownership mention—probably because NBC had already bought WTVJ at this point...

Here's a New Year's rarity: the Final Edition pre-signoff newscast, with its own open!!, from KOLN-KGIN on January 1, 1985. The close mentions "10/11 Strong". The signoff follows, with the National Anthem by the Scarlet and Cream Singers and a visual mention of the employees' IBEW local. Right before cutting the carrier, KOLN itself throws up an even earlier logo slide:

If you go to https://www.youtube.com/user/MrYoumatic, you'll notice that BigO! PlaBax has uploaded a number of rare Omaha clips from the 1970s and 1980s.

Here are the first moments of a KMTV newscast from 1977; anchored by Jeff Jordan.

And, here are the first minutes of a WOWT newscast from 1977; anchored by Gary Kerr and Walt Dean. Watch during the video for a newscast open that was done on film and was reminiscent of the classic WBAL open that was used.

The Omaha-fest continues: KETV's Newswatch 7 Update from March 1980 using a long cut of News People!

Another Newswatch 7 update, from 12/31/79:

KETV had introduced News People by early 1978. (The original station was KGTV San Diego)

Do we have proof they were the first to use News People?

This KSTP ID has people SINGING the classic 4-note tune to The News Image!

We do know McGraw-Hill was the client. Transdiffusion, whose archive is mostly UK stuff, does have a Tuesday reel from 1979 narrated by Bo Donovan (!):

The date on this item cannot be earlier than '79 as it includes two TV image songs from that year: WCCO's "4 Friends" (which was commissioned in light of the affiliation shuffle consuming everything else in that market at the time) and the WRTV theme for their ABC affiliation switch. The other TV item on the reel is KCRA from their brief "News Team 3" era (also as in this promo and this newscast). (It also includes radio work from a variety of stations.)

The part that matters to us belongs at 8:15, when Donovan introduces News People by saying it was "for McGraw-Hill Television". The sample is sung for "channel 10", so it can't really be anyone else, not that you'd suspect otherwise with a San Diego shop...

New KCNC opens, some you've Never Seen before.

I can hear the Announcers of KCNC during the late 80s and even through around the time Bob Palmer retired saying these lines right now:

"From KCNC-TV, Colorado's News Channel"

"It's time for News 4, and you're with Colorado's News Channel."

And even towards the last day as the NBC affiliate and during the Early-CBS years "You're on News 4, Colorado's News Channel"

This is an utter gold mine. I’ve always loved KCNC’s opens, especially all the opens that showed shots of Denver with the “Image” package playing... Newsmusic Central’s work at KCNC is so underrated.

And wow, Carlos Amezcua worked there?
