Classic Video Thread (pre-2008)

Ow, that is one cheap look for 1997...then again it is Park. The MG standardization was one heck of an upgrade for several of his stations...

And yet Park dumped tons of resources into its Virginia outlets...

Posting this because KSL is legit one of the best TV stations ever.

Next week... Viva Las Vegas!

I think before they became "The Southland's #1 News Team"... here is the June 13th, 1972 11pm edition of Eyewitness News..

From the Jenson Home.... yes.. in a home.

See the comments for details... and dont expect Cool Hand Luke to be playing in the open either..

Never thought I'd hear Get it On as a news theme!

If you've got over 4 hours to kill, why don't you watch this morning aircheck of WTVC from December 18, 2006? It contains a complete episode of GMA (with a WTVC update at 25 minutes in using their cuts of Chroma Cues), Live With Regis & Kelly (with Sylvester Stalone and Bow-Wow), Martha Stewart (a Christmas themed show, she also shows us some of the crafts she made in jail!) and the first segment of The View (with Rosie O'Donell on the panel, and long before the constant cast turnover). Enjoy!

And how about THIS?

And don't forget Channel 3 (yes we've seen this open before - but it's a classic).

That KXTV set is different from the one from the 1989 earthquake footage (and they changed up everything again in 1990 with the new station logo). What a revolving door of image for KXTV and KOVR.

When you're up against reporters like Mike Boyd on the street there's really not much chance for them.

What open were they using during the 1989 earthquake? This one or something else?

WTCN, Twin Cities; 10 p.m.; 1979:

The anchor is Stan Bohrman who played -- you guessed it -- a news anchor in The China Syndrome (1979). Here's a brief clip from the movie's opening scene:

Didn't Stan Bohrman anchored a newscast in Philadelphia (KYW) alongside Diane Allen?

Probably not - the lower thirds look different.

Looks like the 1990 KXTV update was the logo / graphics / music, and repainting the 1989 set

Then by '91 they had a new set and music

And by '92 yet another logo, set, and music

Meanwhile KOVR went through two more looks in a year...

Back to a more traditional open and Earwitness News music in mid 1989

Then the NonStop theme and new logo / graphics by October (same set, but that would soon be replaced by one with venetian blinds over the cityscape)

What's this!? Another KOVR surprise — a piece of a noon newscast from November 15, 1988, using a news theme I've never heard. Is this related to EarWitness News?

I don't know if it's related to Earwitness News but they seemed to use it interchangeably with Earwitness News. I also heard it once in an early Kids in the Hall sketch.

Honestly, it sounds like the perfect theme for a Ron Burgundy newscast.
@hmaxhanson there's been a big uptick in fake signoff tapes lately...
I've seen it too. I can't tell whether they were made by autistic kids or Engrish speaking Filipinos. Looks like WFSB had been using it's first TVbD look as early as summer 1983: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK0iGnWTud0

Just came across a number of WTMJ commercial blocks from 1979; included is a WTMJ news promo at 3:34 and the theme they used was featured at CKVR in Vancouver as the news theme for CKVR First News during the late 1970s-early 1980s.

Does anyone know who composed the WTMJ promo theme? Maynard Ferguson?
