Classic Video Thread (pre-2008)

What I wonder is why, in one of those WTVD openings, the main anchors are mentioned by name, but weather and sports are referred to generically (meaning that there are weather and sports segments, but the people on those are not mentioned)?

From Chicago, WGN's news from 1972; the crash of United Flight 553 is the top story (w/ sound issues at the beginning):

CBS News correspondent Michelle Clark died in the crash.

Thus creating one of the biggest "what could have beens" in the history of network television news; as CBS was reportedly planning to add her to the 60 Minutes team in 1973 (as it was, the first black member of the 60 Minutes team would be when Ed Bradley took the spot vacated when Dan Rather was promoted to CBS Evening News anchor; while 3 years later Diane Sawyer would be the first woman to be a correspondent for the series).

Also among the dead in that crash were Illinois Congressman George Collins and Dorothy Hunt (wife of E. Howard of the then-brewing Watergate scandal; reportedly carrying about $10,000 in hush money)

KNBC, Los Angeles; 11 p.m., 1974 (go to 3:57 if not taken there automatically):

This theme is listed by NMSA as a close-only theme -- but here it's used for the open.

IMO, Don Harris looks more like the late, great Chip Moody of WFAA.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY6yHk42wN8 A WTEN report on the band C. Jane Run from around their first stint using Primetime News (this is definitely NOT 2001.) Also at this point I won’t be taking requests anymore - not that I did anyway. No offense but I find it to be too stressful and i already have a list of areas going anyways. @T.L. Hughes I’m sure they did that on your videos too when you were doing compilations... I am also actually at the very bottom of my current list already, so after finishing up Shreveport (yes I’m going there) and a few others, I’ll be back to rummaging through NewsActive3’s mounds of compilations.

A few more KETK items:

More of the slower-mix KMOL theme stuff, including a couple closes, as well as bloopers and some bumps: (cued to the close)

Pieces of a sweeps series on how KETK's "Region 56 News" was produced. The first one, a promo for the set, includes a small snippet of the open that was being used:

Clips of KATC in 1997 (news opens at 0:53, 2:57 and 6:37; using a slower-tempo version of Michael Doucet's [beauSoleil] "Newz Reel")...

...and 1998 (news open at 0:21 and a "Good Morning Acadiana" open on 1:31 with Dave Grusin's "Early AM Attitude")

KATC Good Morning Acadiana open 2002

KATC Acadiana's NewsChannel at 10 open 1997

From the same channel that brought you the rare 1991 WNYT clip on St. Patrick’s Day comes a “NewsCenter 6:30” segment from that same day two years later: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrRJwJHqjeo Btw how long was Marty Aarons at WRGB? A Reddit post made a joke about how he “didn’t even last 42 weeks replacing a guy that lasted 42 years (Ernie Tetrault),” meaning he wasn’t there long. Also, a newspaper article @scrabbleship shared with me on this thread a few months ago said Ernie retired on May 27, so possibly Marty was brought in to replace him. Anyways, thanks to YouTube channel wpdehistory, I was able to make this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sT45XDVneQ
Aarons went from WGRZ to WROC in the summer of 1996 (and his contract was not renewed there when it wrapped in 1999).
He was gone from WRGB shortly after that 1994 intro aired, to answer the question @Info Junkie asked. Between having big shoes to fill and a total lack of chemistry he was a dead man walking regardless.

Anyways, thanks to YouTube channel wpdehistory, I was able to make this:

All the videos you've made-- have they been composed from existing openings (both those that are still on YouTube, and those that were, but are no longer)?
