Some Phoenix news clips (but no opens) from 1982 -- all of them about radio station KZZP:

EDIT: Well, the video got removed, so I'll take advantage of this break in our regularly scheduled programming to share a a few of my favorite non-news opens.

WQED, Pittsburgh; The Infinite Voyage (a science documentary series), 1989:

Yorkshire Television, UK; Whicker's World (a current affairs travelogue), 1980 -- with a truly unforgettable final shot:

And from 1987, Our World, a short-lived ABC News series that looked back at important periods in recent American history:

Bizarre promo for Canal 13's news service from 1993, which shows a homeless man sleeping in an alley covered with paper sheets while being ignored by a TV news van.

The promo begins at 0:39 and ends at 1:30.

I hope this commercial didn't affect the credibility of the station, which was #1 in news back then.

Actually the VO was Mike Lewis.

Mike was in the open. John B. Wells does the Lincoln-Mercury commercial before.

As long as Tegna owns this website now, it seems right that I should post classic clips from one of it's stations:

A nightime version of their 1979 open, this would have have to been no earlier than 1982, as this was after they moved to their current studios:

From September 1983, the first generation of "Clearly The One/The One For You":

An updated open from April 1985, this was after they bought a chopper:

WVEC upload of their coverage of the infamous 1992 April Fools Day prank involving the WNOR-FM "FM 99" morning team of Tommy Rumble and Henry Del Toro (known as Tommy & the Bull) stating that Virginia Beach's Mount Trashmore was about to explode due to a large build-up of methane gas, as reported by Bonita Billingsley (later Harris)

In honor of the NCAA national championship game tonight, here's the highlight video that aired on CBS after NC State won the 1983 title on a last-second dunk. Accompanying the montage is the Christopher Cross hit "All Right". It would be another four years before "One Shining Moment" would debut.

This is some sort of KGTV 1989 news special called "One Night in San Diego". There's some other stuff in the video too.

And some of KFMB's 11:00 "News Eight" from October 1989. Rain is adding to the misery of the Loma Prieta earthquake. Note the interesting live report by telephone from KMST's weatherman Carl Bell:
