IndyNewsOpens 83
Just in from Ken Owen's channel, it's WRTV 6 News at 5 from June 24, 1996: WRTV's open looked weird around then.... It looks cheap. No effects, just a zoom in on the WRTV logo.

10Viewer 319
A rare 1971 promo for The Big News, KNXT's legendary newscast: Super cool! Jerry Dunphy at KNXT. As an aside, what station did Paul Udell NOT work at? LOL. He literally turns up everywhere.

What other stations? I guess I'm not up to speed on this. I know WTHR, and now KNXT.
24994J 5269
What other stations? I guess I'm not up to speed on this. I know WTHR, and now KNXT. From an article looking back at his career when he retired in 2006... "He was at KNXT-TV, a CBS station in Los Angeles now known as KCBS; he was an anchor and reporter at WNBC-TV in New York City; he served as an NBC correspondent in Vietnam; returned to anchoring and reporting at WABC-TV in New York City; at WBBM-TV in Chicago; at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis; WTTV-TV in Washington, DC; KHON-TV in Honolulu; WLS-TV in Chicago; and KRON-TV in San Francisco, from whence he returned to Hawaii to work at KITV."

Guest Former Member 207
Another classic L.A. gem from the Rick Thomas YT page... KNBC's 25th anniversary special from 1974 (although it was labeled as 1973); Paul Moyer (in his first KNBC stint) and Kelly Lange take a tour around the old NBC Burbank lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaT_ooqOz5I

I'm wondering if this was after their apparently disastrous 96 format change. That may explain why it's so simple. Also, Diane Willis from WNEV!

Also, Diane Willis from WNEV! Do we have any clips of that? Plus it’s weird seeing who keeps popping up in L.A. - no wonder CBS 2’s slogan was once the station of the people!

KnoxvilleTVFan 285
We take you back to 1988 where we feature the first minutes of a 10pm newscast as seen on KIDK-TV 3. It features a news open with an unknown news theme.
Samantha 2876
That theme has a very Tuesday/Network feel to it. I've heard it somewhere, too.
KSON17 4
I Assume that KIDK's News Theme was used for Newscasts on KJEO (now KGPE) in the early 1990's.
KnoxvilleTVFan 285
Raymie, I checked the NMSA and it was also used by KJEO (now KGPE) in Fresno as the "KJEO 1993 News Theme". EDIT: I did check both the "KJEO 1988 News Theme" and the "KJEO 1993 News Theme". Both of these themes had a 5-note signature which could be part of a package. Info Junkie 1285
Some WQAD gems for you - both were heard on the NMSA but haven’t been uncovered until now. This is the talent bump using the Palmer News Package and the mystery male VO, who was a long-term client of WQAD and Iowa TV in general. https://www.google.com/amp/wqad.com/2015/02/13/gmqc-marks-jim-mertens-20th-anniversary/amp/ This is the open using NS2000 Plus, same VO. Hopefully there’s more - still looking for the one with the 1984 Theme.

Samantha 2876
Ya like old WFMZ? 'Cuz here's some old WFMZ — more accurately, a full documentary on the occasion of its 40th anniversary! There's a treat right at the start, too (a snippet of a late 70s/early 80s open; there's another snippet later), and the station history is fascinating! You'll learn things like: -The transmitter used to start the station was found in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where WHFV (also on channel 69) had failed the year before WFMZ signed on the air -The original newsgathering vehicles were AMC Pacers -Tons of other stuff! There's also a sampling of clips from the station's other local programming ventures. After the first half hour, it gets a little deep.
