Quite possibly one of the oddest openings I've seen. A little jazz instrumental then the headlines and it's "welcome to the laid back news" on WCCO. I almost expect the anchors to be in barcoloungers with their feet kicked up.

Is Kai Jackson their only nightside reporter? Is that why he's in the talent open? Or does he handle breaking news at the desk, so Denise and Vic can focus on more important things, like the latest celebrity gossip?

Some things from KCNC's now-canceled 4PM news in 2004. They were still called "News4"; they would drop that for "CBS4 News" the next year. The 4PM news ended in 2006, and was replaced with Oprah.

Open:

Bumper and Talent:

Health Alert Open:

Midway Point Rejoin (the cut of Newstime used sounds kind of like 615's now retired Pinnacle):

I already said some of this on YouTube in the comments, but thank you for those. I watched that newscast everyday after school until they cancelled it.

I remember that they kept the News4 branding for a while even though the station officially became "CBS4". In retrospect, it looks somewhat silly, but that 2003 revamp looks much nicer than the 2008 revamp or the new graphics that came in last month. I like that set a lot better than the current one.

I also miss Stephanie Riggs. And Marcia Neville, even though she hated my school.
