CLEVELAND -- WEWS-TV sportscaster Terry Brooks has been indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on nine charges, including rape, attempted rape, and kidnapping, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason.

According to prosecutor Mason's office, between September 1, 2009 and September 14, 2009, a 21-year-old female went to Jack's Sports Bar in South Euclid with Brooks.

"Had some drinks, the girl was not comfortable driving, she was gonna have someone drive her home, he offered to drive her home," explained assistant Cuyahoga County prosecutor Paul Myles.

The female alleges instead of taking her home, Brooks, 32, took her to his residence in South Euclid.

Prosecutors say Brooks raped the woman and dropped her back off at Jack's Sports Bar to get her car.

South Euclid Police began an investigation in January 2010, when the rape was reported.

"The first time the girl's very traumatized, she's a very young girl, very naive, had some trouble dealing with it, still has some trouble dealing with these issues," said Myles. "Ultimately, reported it to a sorority sister of hers, after she had been beating herself up for awhile, then turned it over to the police."

Brooks was indicted on one count of kidnapping, four counts of rape, and four counts of attempted rape. Investigators say because the woman was intoxicated, she could not give consent for sex.

Brooks is employed at WEWS, News Channel 5 as a sports anchor. WEWS News Channel 5 General Manager, Sam Rosenwasser issued the following statement: "We learned late on Tuesday of the Cuyahoga County prosecutor's interest in legal action surrounding the alleged activity of Terry Brooks. Any hint of improper conduct by our employees is taken very seriously by the station and its management team. We will cooperate fully and completely with all investigating authorities in the interest of a resolution that is fair and just for all parties involved. At this time we have placed Terry Brooks on a leave of absence until the facts are determined and we can evaluate his future with the station."

When asked about the allegations, Brooks told Fox 8, "I don't know what you're talking about."
