Grammer, Heaton in 'Action' at FOX

Network gives the comedy 13 episodes

February 9, 2007

FOX has given a 13-episode commitment to "Action News," a multi-camera comedy starring TV favorites Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton.

The project, from writers Christopher Lloyd ("Frasier") and Steve Levitan ("Just Shoot Me!"), was a network free agent, but FOX won the comedy after agreeing to a hefty license fee and episode order, according to the industry trade papers. It probably didn't hurt that the comedy comes from corporate sibling 20th Century Fox TV.

ABC and CBS also reportedly made bids.

"Action News" features Emmy winners Grammer and Heaton as a reunited news anchor team at a local TV station. It will be the first starring vehicle for Grammer and Heaton since the respective conclusions of "Frasier" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."

The network is still filling out the cast and technical staff for the pilot, which appears to be the first development season show with a guaranteed network slot for the 2007-08 season.
