With all apologies to WPVI, this is Philadelphia's best news opening ever. Great theme, editing, effects, logo... it's all here.

They only used this for 6 months - by November Bill Ratner had replaced Al Vanik as voice of the station and they castrated the opens in the process.

The bit in the middle with the newsroom staffer picking up the phone is notable. That was an actual station employee... who then promptly moved to NBC 10. Unsurprisingly, a few weeks later the employee was now female...

Should have clarified.

The newsroom staffer picking up the phone was an actual KYW newsroom staffer. (A lot of the shots were probably of KYW property and personnel)

That staffer then moved to NBC 10, and it was noted in the papers. So they refilmed that part with a female actress.

Thank you for clarifying. I wasn't sure what exactly you meant. Wouldn't it have just made the most sense for KYW to just use one of their station employees instead of hiring an actress. The part only lasts a second and people don't care!
