I like the new look, but the music sucks. It doesn't blend well at all.

Well compared to their previous song which was Duran Duran's "Reach up for the Sunrise", this new theme song isn't too bad.

I love MGMT, but Electric Feel just doesn't work here! Everything else is nice, save for the weird fake grass.

A decent look, but what bugs me the most is the different fonts used for "sunrise" on the set and in the graphics. And maybe it's just me, but I thought "Reach out for the Sunrise" actually fits better.

Why does Sunrise always have better graphics than 7 News?

Everything else is nice, save for the weird fake grass.

No kidding, are they making wheatgrass juice?

Hey man. It used to be on YouTube but it's one of those videos that "went away", and I only have those screenshots. Here's an

from last year (med quality) but it's not the old Channel 8 anymore.. and a rare clip,
from 1988.

Ten adds 6pm news hours, launches channel Eleven

The Ten Network has confirmed the worst kept secret in the television industry - that it will launch a new digital channel targeting the "distinctly youthful" market.

Industry observers have expected Ten to make the move for some time, given the extent to which Nine's digital channel Go! has eaten into the youth television market.

The Sydney Morning Herald first speculated Ten's plans for a youth channel as early as last year.

Ten will call the channel Eleven, and has formed a joint venture with the US studio CBS Studios International to deliver content to the channel.

Programs to feature on the channel will include Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office, Nurse Jackie and the remake of 90210.

Ten will also shift The Simpsons and Neighbours to the channel.

The channel will be launched early next year on digital channel 11.

News restructure

Ten also announced a dramatic restructure of its schedule, shifting its early evening focus from soaps and sitcoms to news.

Ten will launch a "half-hour national news-based program at 6pm to follow its 5pm news".

It will be targeted at "viewers seeking a smarter, more informed, considered and insightful approach to the stories, issues, events and news-makers of the day".

Ten will also launch 6.30pm local newscasts in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

Ten's chief executive officer Grant Blackley said news would serve to bridge the gap between Ten's well established 5pm news and its younger-skewing The 7pm Project.

The changes would involve employing 100 additional staff members.

"This will ensure Ten has the people and technical resources to bring breaking and major news events to all Australians as they happen," Mr Blackley said.

Digital television expands

Today's news follows Seven's announcement that it would launch a third digital channel, 7mate, which will target male viewers.

Nine is now the only network not to confirm its third network plans, though industry rumours have included a movie channel and a lifestyle channel.

Sources say the most likely move for Nine is a crime-themed channel, NineCrime, which would showcase Nine's library of crime-themed programming.

Digital terrestrial television has significantly expanded its footprint in the past two years, largely because of the expansion of services by the ABC (ABC2, ABC3 and ABC News 24) and the commercial networks (Go, 7Two and One).

It is now available in approximately 75 per cent of Australian households.
