I have to say WABC seems to be the only local channel not to use a special package and their L3's seem to take up the most space on screen. I noticed that their programming guide lists CBS sports programming during the papal mass. Is sports being pre-empted for mass coverage, however? WCBS did not say if or were an alternate feed would be. WNBC is airing Golf and NHL Playoffs on their digital sub 4.4. The NHL game will also be simulcast on MSG+. Consider the fact, I dare say, most CCs don't have what looked like 5 feet tall altar candles (candle itself). Their smoker (as I call it) was more ornate. But that is to be expected. Vlad 276 Posted April 21, 2008 Share Posted April 21, 2008 Overall it was great to see the coverage of this event, I mean its not often the most prominent figure in the world to many visits the United States, anyway WABC had the most disgusting and ugly looking graphics as usual. I mean that little square lower third that Iceman Posted looks like it could've been done by a 10-13 year old in Photoshop. They should've planned ahead for this. Truly disgusting and actually a bit disrespectful in my book, I changed the channel because the graphics were too large and were blocking most of the screen anyway. CBS 2 actually had the best graphics in my opinion. They were clean and easy to work with and when watching it felt like it was normal and it blends in with the overall feeling of the event. Channel 4 was nice too, not too much. Fox and CW11 were average. CW11 was far better than WABC though... Univision had nice graphics too. So I was watching the NY Emmy awards last night and at the end WABC won for the best newscast under 35 minutes and some guy from the station kept bragging how they're the best and number 1. I found that rude, at least they could have been humble about it, but they weren't. I also found it funny how no cared and the majority of the people got up to leave during the acceptance speech. Here we go again.... :party: Nate, we moan and groan about WABC for that very reason you basically answered your question. Its because the majority could careless about WABC and its big blue and white graphics and music, so we can't go and talk to them and start confortable conversations about it. And this is where TVNT comes into play. To talk about how Television news is delivered to the viewer. Thats what this forum is for. It is for and I'm gonna say "weird" (most people would think so) people like us who have an interest in these things, to discuss. ProButtonPusher 230 Posted April 23, 2008 Share Posted April 23, 2008 it's perfectly fine to have discussions about things like graphics, or technical conversations--however, people focus on WABC and pull the whole "well the #1 market should have the best graphics!!!11"...there are MUCH smaller markets that have nicer graphics then WABC, but it doesn't make or break a newscast--there could be technical restrictions on why they cannot upgrade yet, or they may not invest in a graphics upgrade because technical changes may be coming soon--the TVNT users should know that there are reasons behind many things you see on the local news, which affect why they may not be the 'best looking', and not just demand and complain for a station to change graphics because they're 'bulky and ugly'. If every station could, they would have the best graphics, the best set, the best music, the best talent, etc...but there are restrictions that go on in the real world, and not just what you envision in your head.
