The worst news opens of all time

Recommended Posts

The UGN one is very cheap (just a stock BG). A slightly newer iteration is also included for comparison (with use of the "splash" elements of the Start Here branding. Their current logo puts cheap Photoshop gloss on the 10 to make it match the current ABC logo)

This is WKJG (now WISE and now a CW affiliate) from Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1997 (video has the whole newscast.) It was like someone learned how to make something in 3D and then spent no time learning how to make it look good. To be fair, in less than two years in October 1999 they launched a brand new graphics package that was incredible for that market.

First, those CONGO credits are ridiculous!

And it staggers me that the station could use those ugly-ass fonts on their open. And the talent shot framing is not at all matched. Is this made by a 10-year-old!? And do they have hairspray at the station? Wowsers.

I'd like to nominate KOMU's current open

The gigantic 'NEWS' is what makes it so obnoxious. KOMU is owned by Mizzou, but they've done a generally good job of avoiding actually looking like a college station. This, though, lol.

Those white things behind the logo look inspired from Media General wayyyyy back when
