Found this video of ATV10 actually using the WPVI version of Moving Closer To Your World, not the other funny-sounding one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8WK9OUAEPQ

Also, I think WorldWide Update was looking for a video that used an Eyewitness News promo as a news opener. Well, I think I found it.

The whole package is funny sounding.

We had a funnier-sounding version. ;D

Here's "Turn To News" used on TVQ/Brisbane, with a short version of "Stand Up and Tell 'em Brisbane's Great" and Late Movie intro.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2bWlfujkQU

I would like to see TVQ to resurrect "Stand Up and Tell 'em". It's my local station, so I'm interested to see the modern implementation of it. BTQ7 had resurrected a promo from the late '80's. Channel 9...well they're still using "Still The One"...

Thanks, newscentre, but for some reason I'm not able to see embedded YouTube videos on this site. What station is the clip from? Slovenia's POP TV uses Gari's Eyewitness News (if that's what you're referring to), but I haven't seen any of the station's material on YouTube yet. You can, however, watch their evening newscast here: http://24ur.com/bin/video_show.php?24UR_d=1167735600&show_media=1615 (click on "Novice")

Anyway, here are some vintage international news clips that I recently stumbled upon on YouTube:

SABC, South Africa, 1988 (promos in Afrikaans, news in English):

SABC, South Africa, 1985 (news in Afrikaans, uses the same "spinning globe" graphics in the open as NBC and Australia's Seven Network during a part of the 1980s):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrDRc1TCAf4

GBC, Gibraltar, 2000 (ID, the evening's schedule, news -- the territory's population is less than 30,000):

An Eyewitness News Update from TEN-10 Sydney, circa 1984:

That user also has a bunch of other clips from Australia:

While we're at it, other international clips:

Hong Kong: TVB's late news open (English), 2006

Singapore: SBC News open (English), 1988

Singapore: Channel 8 "Singapore at 6.30" open (Mandarin), 2006

The Ten clip looks more like 1982 to me. 1982 & 1984 doesn't sound like much difference, but they were making huge leaps in gfx at that time.

By 1984, Ten Eyewitness News had changed from the clip to this:

Thanks, Hinto. I thought that newscentre was talking about Gari's Eyewitness News music package. Still, I love the 1980s Australian material (which I got hooked on thanks to fox1 ;) ).

More YouTube clips:

A special report from Germany's RTL on Saddam Hussein's execution:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNk76cug_Uo

ORF's (Austria) short afternoon newscast in its entirety:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73P4Kr_pxiI

Here's an open from RTL in the Netherlands:

I've posted this one before, but I just love the very 1970s feel of this 1977 TVE (Spain) open:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23LIaqOmpVA

Same network three years earlier (1974); the open is already in color, but the rest of the newscast isn't:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnB3t2egS_M

Assorted 1970s and '80s clips of France's FR3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9yc-ldJRs0

The 1986 open from FR3 in France (features a helicopter in the open, which is unusual for a European network):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfqvcian984

A very psychedelic 1975 open from TF1 in France:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeMfku0dybQ

Same network, ten years later:

Here's RTL Germany, with their techno-fied version of Non-Stop Music's Power News package.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGTIAUDF7D8

Also, their previous news and graphics package, using the original Power News theme.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZtgQCjONBQ

Thanks! However, I'd just like to point out that the second clip is, of course, from a parody, even though the graphical elements are essentially the same as in the original newscast.

I tried to find some opens used by RTL's other stations across Europe, but I haven't had much luck. The best I could do is this heavily-edited clip from RTL-TVI in Belgium (2006)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWUsbqoSQkc

...and this 1990 clip, with both the open and the close, from RTL4 in the Netherlands (note that the backdrop features landmarks from various cities around the world):

Let's go to Israel now, this is Channel 2's newscasts. The set you see, I think was designed by the FX Group, correct me if I am wrong about that.

Here's a special find: A clip of the main evening newscast in Bosnia-Herzegovina from 1994, including the open. At the time, Sarajevo, from where the newscast originated, was surrounded by Serb forces and subject to almost continous shelling, as it had been since 1992. The lead story on this day was a shell that his a group of children, killing seven of them. Parts of the clip (after the open) contain disturbing video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alLlsItbE3w

The anchor you see in the clip later wrote a book about these wartime newscasts from Sarajevo.

I probably can't bear watching that video. My neighbours are from there, and I've heard about the situation there.

btvgmv6 uploaded a bunch of clips again. I love that guy. This clip in particular:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dI5Gzo0jic

First time I hear the Turn To News-esque theme on an actual TV0 news bulletin. Didn't know Kay McGrath worked there once either.

A different version of Turn To News on this clip:

They don't actually have that round spherical building in Brisbane do they? (I'm hoping newscentre can answer...) I honestly think that's Science World in Vancouver, and I think I see BC Place in the shot where the fireworks go off. I suppose their anchor was in Vancouver covering Expo '86, which would make sense since Brisbane was getting ready to host Expo '88.

Nope, that's definately not in Brisbane, must be the building you are talking about.

: this is probably the best, "most classic", station ID ever in Australia. That's a lot, coming from a diehard Ten guy! ..well, along with Ten's 1991 flyover!

: a fairly good 9 News promo.

HSV-7 Melbourne: Seven News following Sydney 2000 Olympic Games: late news following the opening ceremony

Nine Network Australia: Wide World of Sports ID: an updated classic!

Here's a long 1979 clip of ITN's News at 545 in the United Kingdom, the first day back after a strike that left the ITV network off the air for weeks:

Here's a clip of ITN's News at Ten from the mid-1980s. It includes a promo for a local newsmagazine and an LWT (London Weekend Television) ID:

Same newscast, 1993:

Staying in Germany, here's SAT.1's morning show open from the 1980s:

Those 2 clips should be left over from when QTQ was an independent affiliate of the network. Since 1989, if I recall correctly, it has been owned outright by PBL, even though for some years we somehow acted independently of the network regarding news presentation. It wasn't till 2000 we were finally in line with the Sydney station.

As for NWS9, I think they were the only station to use the Action News brand.

I seem to remember the story went that Alan Bond already owned QTQ9 Brisbane and STW9 Perth, and then bought the Nine Network from the Packers. Only he went bankrupt a few years later, and the Packers bought back Nine for a fraction of what they sold it for. I just don't know why STW got divested; was it due to some kind of regulatory action, or did PBL just not feel like going up against Perth's TVW7?
