Just yesterday, local independent station KDOC-TV in Anaheim has made the switch to 1080i format, as the station prepares to debut their brand new morning news program Daybreak OC, set to premiere Monday, September 10 at 6AM. This is a definite first in Orange County commercial television history, providing 10 hours of regional news geard towards OC residents. Stay tuned.

Orange County NewsChannel used to produce more than 20 hours and it was a cable only show of course. KDOC produce NewsWatch(a/k/a Orange County News Watch, News Watch 56, KDOC NewsWatch 56) which was anchored by Michelle Merker and Pat (Girls Gone Wild) Mathews(he's the commercials announcer) back in the late 1980's early 1990's until OCN debut and and it was canceled. Incidentally the Register could have done this years ago. But when the local 24 hour news channel craze swept the country The papers Parent company Freedom Communications went that route instead. Will it be successful depends on promotion and covering the outlying areas like Long Beach, Corona, Pomona/ San Gabriel Valley; Chino Valley and Oceanside/Carlsbad North San Diego County areas and get people to watch.

Thanks very much for that insight on OC news happenings from days past. Great job especially for the in-depth facts on KDOC's former news offerings. Technically, NewsWatch was on the air as late as 2006, with Michelle Merker still at the anchor desk providing news briefs twice daily at 11:58 AM.

Hopefully, the new show will have as much integrity as ever, once it hits airwaves today.
