Jeopardy has always been screwed badly timeslot-wise in Central and Mountain Time Zone Markets except for Fox affiliates (i.e. WVUE and WALA) or now KTVT and WDJT. Those of us in the Eastern or Pacific Time Zones are so used to Wheel and Jeopardy being in tandem with each other whether on the same station or separate that it's almost unfathomable to not watch Jeopardy at night over dinner or after it.

Jeopardy! does have some benefits in the CT/MT zones. Aside from getting it earlier than larger ET/PT markets, several of them are able to double-run it in the 3 or 4 PM hour, and unlike Wheel which is forced to be slotted in prime access with rarely any exception, they never have to worry about getting pre-empted by sporting events, pregame shows, debates, or some random local telethon or special that the station is looking to produce. Pretty much the only afternoon pre-emptions for J! are tennis and golf on NBC, and Black Friday college football on CBS and ABC. Even during the Olympics, J!'s typical 4/4:30 PM CT is in the open window between Olympic broadcasts that's meant for 5:00 newscasts in ET, but in many cases, Wheel is forced to take two weeks off if the affiliate opts to air The Olympic Zone (CBS MV will not allow them to move Wheel up to 4:00 or 4:30 to replace half of a J! double run, which is silly).

If it weren't for Wheel still being forced to be slotted in prime access with just one single run (both clauses being leftovers from when it was also a daytime show to avoid competition or confusion between the two versions), I think many CT/MT affiliates would jump at the opportunity to put Jeopardy! at 6:30 and Wheel sometime in the afternoon or even late morning, if they were allowed to do so. At least then, us Wheel fans would have an early opportunity besides the blurry recordings of CJON's airings that show up on YouTube by 4:30 ET.

We got a big list from Omaha, so let’s get down to some business.

Starting September 11th:

KMTV: Scripps News Live takes the 9:00am slot, bumping the first half-hour period of Drew Barrymore to 9:30am (the second half-hour remains in overnights), while 25 Words or Less gets its own back-to-back hour at 3:00pm (it previously aired at 9:30am).

WOWT: Same but People Puzzler and InvestigateTV+ move in

KPTM: Equal Justice is at 11:00am, and Justice for The People is at 11:30am, replacing the first rerun of The People’s Court. Mathis Court at 1:30pm, replacing second rerun of Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court. Person, Place, or Thing at 5:30pm, replacing You Bet Your  Life.

KPTM 42.3 (The CW): Cutlers Court at 9:00am and 9:30am, replacing Relative Justice.

Starting September 4th:

KETV: Tamron Hall (though the station claims to start on September 5th)

The growing trend is that it seems very few of Dr. Phil's affiliates decided to take the reruns as intended (Weigel Milwaukee is downgrading it to 6am on WMLW), so I would say that while it can be done for a court show, it's a no go for talk shows and they were better off just creating a Pluto TV channel instead. The five plays a day on OWN certainly didn't help at all.

An addendum to WDJT/WMLW; they are expanding the noon show, but cutting the 8am part of the WMLW show to plant the second ''Dateline'' rerun as ''48 Hours'' gets the 8pm timeslot. Meanwhile in technicality, nothing changes in the afternoon except Millian and Mathis's ESTV shows are on from 2-3 while their old WB/Telepictures shows stay at noon-2.

alright, time to talk about WAXN but orlando - otherwise known as WRDQ.

relative justice seemed to get quietly removed from syndication - tbh it quietly got into syndication in this market, we didn’t have it at all in season 1. anyway 27 is now home to 3 hours of byron allen’s court shows that have real™️ litigants. eboni at 10am, lauren lake (moved from WKCF) at 11am, judge mathis at 12 noon (the old judge mathis remains on WRBW)

schedule is the same it was last year till 5pm. last man standing comes over from WKCF in that hour. everything else is the same till 8:30pm - the other court cam run is here. VERY random run of iCrime at 11pm (black-ish seems to not be cleared this season. but my provider and TVPassport are saying two different things) - and everything else is the same. that is the end of the changes for 9/11. see y’all Saturday for the off network weekend updates and how wkmg - known for their 7pm weekend news - is gonna handle entertainment tonight weekend compared to WESH.

If WKMG’s sister station in Houston (KPRC) is any indication, the weekend edition of ET will probably air right before WKMG flashes over to the CBS Overnight News since KPRC (which ironically was WESH’s sister station under the ownership of the Hobby family and even once shared WESH’s “2” logo that originated at KPRC in 1985) airs it at midnight late Sunday following the 10pm news as well as Sports SundayThe Texas Bucket List and The Winning Walk (Dr. Ed Young’s sermons from Second Baptist Church in Houston).

As for WFTV passing on ET and choosing to air Court Cam, there is basically no room there since they’re not giving up Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! anytime soon, also considering it’s a cornerstone affiliate of ABC (along with WSB and WSOC) which already carries its celebrity and million-dollar championship editions in primetime and will be doing so as long as the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are feuding with the executives and AMPTP. And that’s another thing, also considering Disney’s outsized economic role (and also role as a political punching bag) in central Florida as well as Court Cam being off-net from a quasi-sister network (A&E) co-owned with WESH’s parent company.

Also, on another note KRON is about to gain some leverage in the college sports ad wars on the weekends in the Bay Area - the ACC just voted to accept Cal and Stanford into their conference along with SMU in Nexstar’s home base of DFW beginning in 2024.

One of the WDJT mets just dropped that their noon show is expanding to an hourThe Bold and the Beautiful goes to 2pm, Inside Edition and Daytime Jeopardy fill the former Phil slot, and the second half hour of Drew likely goes to 12:37am.

Interesting. I haven't seen a station air B&B other than at 1:30 or 12:30

There’s a few exceptions. KIRO in Seattle has been doing the same thing for several years, air it at 2 for an hour news and a station in Oklahoma (I believe it’s Tulsa) delays it til late night).

Yep, KOTV has aired it late at night for quite some time.

Small follow up regarding the ABC daytime changes.

Based on the guides, and watching a promo, Tamron Hall is moving to 2pm this Monday (9/4).

Rachael Ray will move back to its original timeslot at 10am for one week to wrap up the run. And that's when the stations will debut its new 10am shows the following week (9/11 on WPVI & WTVD; 9/12 on WABC).

I don’t think Black-ish is getting cleared anywhere. It seems to be quietly leaving syndication. WCCB still has “To Be Announced” in its time slot (11:30pm-12:30am). They might mess around and put “Court Cam” there even though they don’t have any court shows. It has not showed up on the Charlotte schedules.

A couple changes in Mobile/Pensacola.

To replace Dr. Phil, WALA Is debuting a half hour 3:00 p.m. newscast on September 11th followed by InvestigateTV+ at 3:30.

Equal Justice with Judge Ebony K. Williams  will air for an hour at 1:00 p.m.  Judge Mathis is still at noon and People's Court will still air at 2 as of September 11th. (See below where Judge Mathis' and Marilyn Milan's efforts will end up!)

The Neighborhood will air from 10:30 to 11:30pm, followed by an hour of Mom, then Daytime Jeopardy at 12:30am, followed by a repeat of Fox 10's 9:00 p.m. newscast, both hours of Studio Ten, and InvestigateTV+ to round out the late-night into the 4:30am news.

Over at WEAR, It looks like the last hour-long 10:00 p.m. newscast is done.  It will now be a standard 35 minute length followed by Jimmy Kimmel "Live".

They'll also replay the 10:00 p.m. at midnight following Nightline.

On WJTC (WPMI's sister station), that's where Mathis Court and Justice For The People will end up.   They'll air at 1:30 and 2pm and have an encore the following morning at 7:00 a.m...

On WKRG,  WFGX, WPMI, and WFNA, there's nothing too earth shattering, except maybe a new Byron Allen court show or two on WFNA and anything else on WFGX.... (I've honestly lost track at this point 🤣)

An end of an era here. They were one of the last ABC affiliates not to air JKL on time....

I didn’t know there were any ABC affiliates still delaying Kimmel. An odd time to suddenly start airing him in pattern with the writers strike.

WCCB

Black-ish may be leaving syndication as “To Be Announced” is currently listed from 11:30pm-12:30am

WCCB finally updated its schedule….The Simpsons returns to its schedule for the first time in several years…but instead of simply putting it at 11:30 and midnight where Blackish was they put it at 6 and 6:30pm, and banish American Housewife to 12:30am, it will only get one airing Monday through Friday now, so five episodes a week won’t be seen. SMDH. It would be OK if they wouldn’t skip episodes.

Mom ends up taking over Black-ish’s time slot. It gets 2 airings again from 11:30pm until 12:30am.

A rerun of Karamo replaces the JHud rerun at 2am and a double run of (sure enough) Court Cam replaces the Kelly Clarkson rerun at 3am (not 11:30pm).  No changes before 6pm.

WEAR was probably THE very last station to do so, after WISN relented a few years back.

Likely tied to their Sinclair renewal with ABC, they tweaked their logo with the latest ABC version as well.  What would they have done...pulled KDNL's affiliation in retaliation? 🤣

From Gotham City:

WCBS: Judge Judy (2x) moves to 3pm, replacing Dr. Phil + Hot Bench (double run) takes over at 4pm on 9/11.

WNBC: No changes

WNYW: Another Family feud (2x) run replaces Big Bang Theory at 11p on 9/4.

Person place or Thing (1st run) replaces a You Bet Your Life run at 1:30p on 9/11.

WABC: Rachael Ray moves back to her original slot at 10am as placeholder for her last week + Tamron Hall moves to 2pm on 9/4.

Eyewitness News at 10a debuts 9/12. (delayed by a day for obvious reasons)

WWOR: Encore run of Divorce Court at 8:30a while a previous run of Dish Nation at 6:30p (replacing BBT) after their new one for one week only on 9/4, both serves as placeholders.

Effective 9/11: a People's Court run moves up a hour to 12p, Divorce Court (2x) moves up to 1pm. Maury (1x) moves to 2p, Jennifer Hudson encore moves up at 4p. Another Feud run at 5p, Who the Bleep is that? at 5:30p, People Puzzler debuts at 6p, pushing new Dish Nation back to 6:30p. TMZ Live encore moves up at 11p (from 12:30a) replacing that feud 2x run that'll transfer to WNYW in same timeframe. People Puzzler (2nd run) at 12a + Person, place or Thing (2nd run) at 12:30a, pushing Pictionary (2nd run) to 1a.

Observations: My9 has been the Feud station for a while + this only cements it. Currently, 7-8p, 10-11p + 11:30p (not to mention 6:30p on FOX 5, which will also add 11p-12a runs on 9/11, latter half transferred from My9) Add in extra 5p run, it's 4 hrs. combined of Feud runs from the duop. Not to mention how WWOR hasn't only been a shell of itself, it became a 'parking lot'. 9 Broadcast Plaza is all but gone. But I'll digress.

WLNY: CBS News New York debuted newscast at 8p (encore at 8:30p) on 9/1

Law + Order: SVU moves back to 9p

Effective 9/11: Forensic files at 4a (replacing The balancing act), Top secret files at 4:30a (replacing Scene of the crime) Supreme Justice at 5a, Justice for All + The Verdict w/ Hatchett at 6 + 6:30a (replacing Springer), CBS Morning (2nd half) simulcast at 8a (replacing another Springer run) Equal Justice w/ Judge Eboni (1x) at 11:30a, Justice for the people (2x) (Judge Milian's new show) at 12p, Cutlers Court, basically the new Couples Court, at 1p (2x) (replacing Relative Justice) Judge Mathis airs solo at 2p, Springer moves to 3p and airs solo (replacing Mathis' 2nd run)

WPIX: Big Bang Theory debuts at 7:30p on 9/4

Young Sheldon moves to 1:30a, Black-ish (1x) in its final week at 2a + The Goldbergs at 2:30a on early 9/5

Dr. Phil reruns move to PIX11 at 3p on 9/11

Effective 9/12: Big Bang Theory (2nd run) at 1a, Paid Program at 2a (replacing Black-ish), Two and a Half men (2nd run) moves to 2:30a, The goldbergs (1x) at 3:30a (replacing Last Man Standing, but still can be seen on WLNY 7-8p)

Side Note: For those station/subchannels affiliated with the CW Plus feed: Black-ish exits after 9/9. TMZ, TMZ Live + Dish Nation are added to the daily schedule on 9/4. Chicago PD + The liquidator reruns move to 6a + 7a respectively, while We the people (1x) + Divorce Court (2x) air 7:30 + 8-9a respectively, also 9/4. Springer returns to the schedule on 9/11 (replacing Black-ish). Judge Jerry + Caught in Providence reruns exited after this past week.

And I thought WDCA (which is the WWOR of DC) now airing Feud 7 times a day was obscene. Once again, it shows how dire syndication and linear tv is.

WMAQ-TV (Ch. 5/NBC): No changes

WLS-TV (Ch. 7/ABC): No changes

WGN-TV (Ch. 9): Dr. Phil reruns moves to WGN-TV at 1PM and Spotlight Chicago at 3PM on 9/11, Big Bang Theory debuts at 7PM replacing Black-ish on 9/4, The Goldbergs reduced to a single run at 11:30PM

Here's WCIU/WMEU's fall schedule.

  • New Byron Allen shows' Justice For The People s (2x) and Mathis Court (2x) will air at 1pm & 3pm, respectively. Equal Justice will air at 7am (with a 2nd airing at 7pm on WMEU (except on Thursdays)).
  • Repeats of The People's Court moves to 8am; while the Judge Mathis repeats will stay at 2pm. Second airings for both shows will air from 8-10pm on WMEU.
  • Cutlers Court will air at 7:30am (with a 2nd airing at 2:30am the next AM).
  • Court Cam (2x) will air at 6pm on WMEU.

And looking at WPWR, looks like the MyNetworkTV block will be shifted again. From 8-10pm to 10pm-Midnight.

  • The Family Feud two-hour block will be split up. The 5pm hour will be retained. But the 2nd hour will be moved to 7pm. In its place at 6pm will be airings of Person, Place or Thing and Who The Bleep Is That? (with 2nd airings for both shows at Midnight). Should've place this on the 7pm hour, IMO. If it ain't broke?.....
  • 48 Hours will air at 8pm (with another airing at 9am).

And looking at WFLD, this explains why they split Family Feud on 50.

  • 32 will air Feud on the 6pm hour to replace Big Bang. And the before-the-news Feud will move from 3pm to 2pm. TMZ Live will be the news lead-in at 3pm.
  • People Puzzler will occupy the 1pm hour.

And this should also be mention. And looking at a couple of guides, apparently 32 is replacing the 4am Good Day Wake Up for a simulcast of Fox Weather.

Some additional observations from Houston on the purgatory known as non-sports weekend programming…

At KPRCImpractical Jokers is DONE, and their usual time slots this coming Saturday are listed on Xfinity and TVPassport as “To Be Announced”. The Saturday schedule has the weekend Entertainment Tonight run airing at 1:02am and Byron Allen’s The American Athlete running at 2:30am - on BOTH late Saturday AND late Sunday night. A new locally produced foodie show, Eat Like a Local from noted Houston chef Chris Shepherd, will re-air Sunday night following their long-running Sports Sunday; this program will primarily air at 10am Saturday mornings between KPRC’s Saturday morning filler newscasts and various NBC sports and E/I programs.

KHOU remains virtually unchanged save for The Equalizer replacing the now canceled Magnum P.I. on the CMV weekend block, slotted at 12:30am Saturday night and 1:30am Sunday night between fellow CMV warehouse stablemate SEAL Team and non-CMV Murdoch Mysteries repeats from the CBC.

And at KIAH, much like fellow truTV import Impractical Jokers, The Carbonaro Effect is also DONE, as the weekend reruns of The Big Bang Theory will take the Sunday night 1am slot. Pawn Stars and Storage Wars remain where they are now in the 2am and 3am hours, and Major Crimes appears to be airing in the Saturday night 2am slot instead of a run of PS. The rest of the weekend outside of CW, CW Sports, a few local shows, Nexstar must-runs and some smaller-tier HBCU football games will be a hodgepodge of movies and reruns, but after some 25 years or so Friends will not be one of them. Call this year The One Where We Got Kicked Out of Houston…“We” referring to those six lovable roomies from a now-bygone era lounging on the couch at Central Perk.

No significant weekend changes at KTRKKRIV or KTXH.

And let's not leave out The 700 Club, which continues to pollute the WWOR airwaves at 9:00a. But I guess that's the only thing better than infomercials or another double-run of Steve Harvey's Family Feud in that hour slot.
