Weekend newscast starts on October 7th.  It looks like they are only going with the 11 pm newscast for now.

The weekend early-evening ones are no surprise... Saturdays at 6:00 and Sundays at 6:30pm.

Ever since Terrence Friday replaced Jeff Skversky on the weekday evenings, the 5 and 6 pm newscasts have improved.  Pacing is better, and the presentation is a lot more smooth.  Terrence is a much better for than Jeff ever was.

Then who is anchoring the Noon and 4pm newscasts?

Had a does it look like Denver?

Showing anchors do the VO and a person in the woods, along with shots of the Detroit skyline.

Still not a fan of anchor-read intro VOs, but it doesn't look bad.

Copy of KCNC and KYW.

Saturday, it will be a year since CBS News Detroit premiered and they have really improved since then, especially the combo of Terrance and Shania on the evening broadcasts. I know in some way the ratings will still be a challenge, but this news operation is in for the long haul.

Was this entire operation built from the ground up, or was their already existing staff?

They’ve definitely improved, but it’s not without turbulence. One of their main anchors is gone, their sports anchor was unceremoniously dumped, and the ratings are going nowhere fast. To me, they don’t really offer anything that makes them stand out.

Of course, any news is better than no news at all, and I’m glad CBS finally did what they should’ve done years ago and reinstated newscasts, but there is much need for improvement.

Actually, their ratings are still climbing.  They beat WXYZ in some major demographics.  I would stay away from certain boards who all they do is complain and quite frankly, don’t know what they are talking about.

Jeff Skversky had to go imo.  He wasn’t that good if an anchor and he was becoming a cancer in the newsroom.  This and moving Terrence Friday to evenings is one if the main reasons why the evening newscasts have drastically improved.

Do you have any ratings data to support this? Or a source for Jeff Skversky supposedly being a newsroom cancer? And how do you explain Ronnie Duncan suddenly leaving? I’d genuinely be shocked if they are beating WXYZ. No offense, but this sounds like gossip.

Inside info.  This info came from someone at CBS.  As for Ronnie leaving, can’t get into that.  Sorry.

My apologies if my comment there sounded harsh; I just don’t want to take things as gospel when we don’t really have a way to confirm it, although I know there are things in the media business that Joe Public can’t be privy to. I’ll take what you said in good faith, but I’d still genuinely be shocked if they’re beating WXYZ after only a year or so. If that’s the case, good for them.

It’s a shame ratings data is hard to come by, or that they usually don’t account for streaming numbers. I know Broadcasting & Cable does spotlights of cities where they list where stations are at ratings-wise, but I couldn’t find anything for Detroit. C’est la vie, I guess.

It’s all good.  WWJ seems to be making some changes behind the scenes and are hiring more people.  One of the anchors who just left (Jeff Skversky) said the station’s numbers were lot better than what was expected.  The info I got definitely backs that up.

They are definitely looking for a new sports anchor.
