2022-23 NBA Season

Figured I'd start this thread now, because there's a major development on the broadcasting front. Despite receiving an offer to remain with the NBA on TNT, Dwayne Wade will be leaving TNT's NBA coverage on his own terms after three seasons. According to the New York Post report from Andrew Marchand, Wade said there were no ill feelings between him and TNT over his decision to leave.

The theme is a swing-and-a-miss, for me. There's plenty of brand recognition in the old one, having been around for the better part of 2 decades, but whatever. The graphics, though, have needed a major reset, so this should be a welcomed change.

I like the smaller score bug and the color matchup with the team jerseys. Unfortunately, it kinda goes downhill from there.

The theme sounds like something a SoundCloud rapper made in 30 mins and decided not to use. The pillbox shaped clock might’ve gone over better in 2002. And what’s with the recent affinity for stretched out fonts at ESPN? Did they hire WJZ’s creative director?

Totally agree on the clock. If you're going to use a rectangular design for everything else, the one non rectangle is just going to look weird.

The NBC RSNs have slightly updated their NBA scorebug.

There is also a new 3-point animation, as well.

They must have new tech driving their scoreboard graphics and thus an update to the layouts. I hope upon hope this leads to the 2015 insert package finally being retired in the near future.

I'm thinking they're waiting until September 2023 when the new NBC Sports college football deal starts, but hey, color me surprised if something happens sooner than that.

NBC Sports Bay Area now has a side by side scorebug with only team logos.

It’s no longer on the top and bottom.

The city/team name acronyms are now omitted and this 👌🏼 emoji pops up when they score a 3 pointer when the score changes.

Look up above. We already discussed the new NBC bug.
