WJZY to become Queen City News starting in the new year

For a couple of newscasts last night and today, YouTubeTV blocked out the newscast timeslots as "not being cleared for the internet".

This happens every now and then for certain programs, and it's likely a scheduling thing that stations/channels can take advantage of when they know they don't have the right to stream it over the internet (usually some sports and music shows, and the occasional movie or two)

And given it's newness, "Fox 46 News" was still on the schedule, then it was replaced by "To Be Announced" and then "Queen City News", which triggered the block.

The 4pm is on now, and its "To Be Announced" and is working normally.  "Queen City News" is on at 5pm, so we'll see if it works....

Hopefully it's just an oversight given the pain changing guide schedule can be, and there's likely layers of approval that programs have to submit to be cleared for all users on all devices.

Then again, I'm "In" Charlotte watching YTTV like a local, with some "location assistance".

Just with Nexstar being Nexstar treating streaming TV like an invalid, is it an oversight or by design?

The ignorance of these companies in regards to streaming is horrendous. When the cable companies go out of business, these companies will be in a lot of trouble.

The name is fine... if it was a lifestyle type show.

Still think these following names would work:

FOX Charlotte

FOX 46 News

46 News

Queen City's very own FOX46.

Waiting on the call letters to change to WQCN

What about "Fox Queen City?"

It's really up to the station to decide what to make available on YTTV and what to block. Most Nexstar and pretty much all Hearst stations are notorious for blocking paid programming from being streamed through YTTV while the same infomercials seen on stations owned by other companies appear just fine. Wish it wasn't so inconsistent...

Proof that Nexstar is running this is failure is inevitable...

The open IMO, is a WPVI clone, not a crossover.

Yeah the shot of the baseball player taking a swing is the one that puts it into clone territory - but nice to see someone go with an arrestingly long intro, althought the music is bland

Set looks decent, nice skyline shot, seamless, not distracting

The 'Carolinas own' on top of 'Queen City' feels stretched - let's be WGN too!

But it's definitely not a WTHR Eyewitness Newscenter

Odd they led off the first 'queen city' format with a teaser about a story in upstate New York (taser incident)

Licencing (especially music) could be the hangup.  The bigger the license = the more it could cost.  Cutting the licensing to only what's actually necessary could save some $$$, and could be a major reason Nexstar hasn't taken the plunge in the OTT space.

Then again, Nexstar has gotten their hands on some of the Tribune stations that pretty liberally used copyrighted material in their shows.

Especially WGN Chicago and even stations like WJW in Cleveland.

It came down to licensing issues (segments not cleared outside of Chicago) that killed the nationwide simulcast of the WGN Morning News on cable.  And watching some more recent episodes, there's lots of licensed content in there whether it's music, clips, sound effects, that makes the show what it is.  And there's a good chance it's all accounted for and documented so it can be cleared accordingly.

I don't think that's it. I came across a random Tegna station (KIDY) who blocks Maury on YTTV and no other station I've seen blocks that show.

Yeah...that open is WPVI esque. Might as well just get the Action News theme instead of this weird production music 😂🤣

The production music is temporary. A source I have on the inside tells me that that it's likely going to be replaced with a custom package by the middle of the year. They didn't say by who, but I can assume Stephen Arnold.

The beginning of the end for that branding...

Because of a minor logo change? C’mon now.

WJZY’s research indicated that the market responded better to “Queen City News” than “Fox 46.” Unless the ratings drop precipitously, the branding’s not going anywhere.
