Joe Donlon is joining Albert Ramon and his old boss Jennifer Lyons at WBBM. Looks like that may be the next stop for NewsNation alumni who want to flee this sinking ship.

Yeah, because WBBM is known for its stability…

I'm surprised that Nexstar doesn't add News Nation morning show on CW's & MyNet TV stations they own 3-hour block I looked at WXSP it is pretty much paid programming from 6AM to 9AM other Andy's Gospel Truth at 7:30AM. I have always been surprised that Nexstar has never wanted to complete with Fox17 morning news from 7AM to 9AM.

Why would they take off paid programming? That’s probably one of big ways those secondary stations make any money.

They can make money with local news or NewsNation Morning since Nexstar owns it I see they do air NewsNation Morning News on select TV stations that Nexstar owns. Better use than paid programming.

Have you ever sold time? Paid programming is the backbone of many low rated independent or CW/MNT stations especially in off-rated time periods such as mornings.

(Feel free to move if this isn’t the right thread) Live PD is coming back, this time as “On Patrol Live” on Hubbard’s Reelz. Dan Abrams will return to host, but it looks like he’ll still be with NN. I wonder why Nexstar wouldn’t bite and let the show go to another broadcaster. It could’ve been a shot in the arm for NN or (probably soon to be acquired) CW.

"Oh sorry, the news isn't happening during our regular news programming schedule, so we're not covering it." lol

I bet this is less about a rigid programming schedule for their staff and more to do with cable operators agreements. As news programming has grown, the "general entertainment" programming from WGN America's original format has shrunk. Most old school contracts have a minimum number of hours that must be dedicated to the channel's stated programming purpose. So while I think NewsNation probably would have liked to cover it - and certainly had the resources to given the availability of a clean feed - I bet they couldn't afford to lose 3+ hours of their entertainment schedule.

Ultimately this is one of the biggest problems for this channel. The need to still fulfill old carriage agreements while trying to take on a new mission. At some point they need to go all in if they are going to try to be a full-service news network.

Considering how badly all of NewsNation's ratings continue to be, I doubt he'll remain much longer. 47,000 viewers & only 20,000 25-54 at 9 PM. I've consulted single medium market radio stations that get better 25-54 numbers than NN does nationally.

Sidebar: CNN’s “New Day” is in the dumps when it comes to ratings.

I wonder how much longer until changes are made.

Licht said at the WBD upfront a few weeks back that changes are coming to the morning show. https://www.thewrap.com/cnn-boss-morning-show-reimagined-chris-wallace-hbo-max/amp/

Yesterday’s parade shooting in the Chicago area received coverage from the big cable networks, and of course from local stations like WGN. Per FTVLive, this was not the case at NewsNation. In the immediate hours after the shooting, their Twitter page posted a single article on the shooting that contained reporting from both WGN and the Chicago Sun-Times, but not from NewsNation itself. While WGN was live and on the air, NewsNation was showing the famous award-winning news program… Blue Bloods. They did not go live on air or update their digital content with their own reporting until much later. It should be emphasized that NewsNation is located in the same building as WGN. In Chicago.

I think we can finally pronounce this thing dead. No need to give any more attention to a network that can’t take itself seriously enough to properly cover a story miles from where they’re located.

It is embarrassing for NewsNation and Nexstar as a whole. The only way it can be saved is if it becomes a broadcast news network. I keep thinking that The CW will become a broadcast feed of NewsNation because of how stupid Nexstar is.

Do you want NewsNation to fail Nexstar? Because it is the biggest joke in TV at this point.

Other than the free preview in October 2020 and a handful of stations beginning to carry Morning in America and Early Morning, they foolishly have completely ignored broadcast.

Speaking of, as of July 4, KDAF added Early Morning and Morning in America to its schedule.

I would be surprised if WMYT added it at this point, can’t see Nexstar wanting it to compete with Queen City News Now.

Sooner or later, the golden goose of trying to make something out of WGN America is going to dry up.  Once the OTT providers start dropping it, it's toast.

Even worse is when a network that is FREE over the internet and gets roughly twice the viewers as NN (NewsMax)...

I'd be shocked if Nexstar succeeds in getting the CW and trying to put NN's content there....then again, no I wouldn't.

I'd be curious to see how the WFLANow content does.  It does a much better job of covering the news than NewsNation does....sort of a low-budget HLN before they became  the "murder porn" channel and home of endless Forensic Files marathons....

And I'm getting tired of people beating a dead horse here.

I know a lot of you don't think NN will succeed (and I understand that), but the more it gets talked about not succeeding; it gets pretty boring.

And part of the reason why stuff like In The Heat Of The Night are still airing is because they're trying to burn off the syndication rights; and a lot of the breaking news stuff that happens, they're trying to rely on the website, YouTube, or Nexstar's affiliates for it because of the shows like In The Heat Of The Night.

Website had one story posted during the event, don't think YT ever had anything, what Nexstar's affiliates were doing at the time has no bearing on this conversation (except that NN had WGN right there) and it's not like they haven't pre-empted the midday syndication before to break in.

There's literally zero reason for NewsNation to have stuck with reruns outside of they weren't staffed for the holiday to do this, which again makes no sense. Whomever was working WGN that day should've had the ability to go live on NN with the coverage.

If you're getting annoyed with the conversation around NewsNation, be upset at them or block this thread so you don't see it.

In my opinion, If Nexstar has enough money to buy the debt caused by The CW, They have enough money to buy out the syndication rights to stop airing "In The Heat Of The Night"/others and air continuous news like every other NEWS network does. Nexstar needs to stop making excuses for moving people to digital and actually get serious about Breaking News because If they don't, Not only will others surpass them, but no one would want to buy NewsNation if Nexstar ever wants to sell it. This is a massive failure from every side imaginable and the person to blame is Perry Sook and his sky high retransmission fees/greed.
