CBS Sports debuting new graphics

Wasn’t mentioned but it looks like CBS is waiting until next season to update its regular season college basketball graphics. The old score bug was in place for the Kentucky/Auburn game yesterday and the open was the same outside of replacing the old CBS Sports logo with the new one. Instead of the CBS Sports NCAA logo in the upper right hand corner, though, it had a CBS | SEC logo.

They did a bracket special prior to the game using the current March Madness graphics, so it remains to be seen if that will carry over through the tournament or be updated.

March Madness was supposed to debut new graphics last year until COVID had other plans. I think the new March Madness pack will debut this year.

That unused package is discussed with this conversation with CBS Sports' head of design. Sure enough, there will be new graphics for the NCAA Tournament, but not The Masters. The former will debut with obvious adjustments, and the latter rolled out a new package a few years ago, since the neither are CBS exclusives. In addition to the March Madness look, he mentions that there was a ton of progress made on a new sports image before corporate came down with the overarching network mandates.

Also of note, don't expect much more to debut until closer to the fall. Post-Super Bowl, they want to take the spring and summer to get everything right for a complete rollout.

So, similar to what they did with the 2013 look, when it was shelved after Super Bowl XLVII until the next NFL preseason.

I wonder if this means we can avoid the ridiculous thing they did in 2013 where they rolled out the new graphics with the Super Bowl, but went back to the old graphics for the NFL preseason and didn't bring back the new graphics until the first day of the NFL regular season. Let's hope so.

And the new CFB scoreboard. The animations look so much better and smoother than at SBLV.

Yeah they definitely did some tweaking to the design. There's now some gradients and opacity to it. Much better looking.
