Fox Weather

I don't think I've ever seen this happen before... Fox Weather cut to some program involving the American Red Cross from Kelly Costa's usual overnight weather update loop, then cut back to the latter. That's odd... (This is being typed only a few minutes after the "technical difficulty" happened)

On Saturday 7/14, Bob Van Dillen hosted his first full show. He hosted Fox Weather Live alongside Craig Herrera. Michael, Kiyana, and Rick were all off today, I believe. I was at work and missed basically all of it.

Craig and Jane were back together again on Fox Weather First Weekend as well. Craig hosted at least part of both shows, but it's unclear if he did the full 8 hours or not. I kinda doubt that he did. No idea if some of the hours were solo-hosted or if a different meteorologist joined either Jane early in the AM or Bob in the PM hours.

The pre-recorded format of America's Weather Center continued last week Tuesday-Friday (Monday 7/10 was the only fully live day), and here again today Monday 7/17, they're still doing the pre-recorded solo-hosted show.

Not a fan of the direction this is going. It's starting to look like live editions of America's Weather Center are being phased out. We're heading back to the late 2021-early 2022 afternoon abyss. Here I would think that people would want to tune in during their lunch breaks and watch live, but maybe their viewership numbers didn't bear that out?

The program guide has been updated to reflect America's Weather Center being divided into 30-minute blocks (all replays of the 12:00pm-12:30pm ET live show).

Not good news for those of us who want live programming during the midday hours.

On weekdays, I generally only watched the network live during my lunch break. Now that the entire show is pre-recorded, I have very little interest in watching something they recorded 2 hours prior.

Funny how the caption mentions Michael and Craig, but the picture is of Stephen….

Wow, another new development from the "How can we fill the schedule with more hours of prerecorded programming?" Department...

Tonight, for Fox Weather Live, they did they 6pm and 7pm ET hours live from Studio A as usual, but then at 8pm, they moved to Studio W not for a fully-live show, but rather, for a live-to-tape show that would then re-air at 9pm ET. Tonight's live-to-tape show brought former host Nick Kosir back into a more involved role, as he was featured in studio for discussion segments (a la Weather Command) at both :20 and :50 past the hour.

My take:

1) Not happy about even more erosion of fully-live shows.

2) If Nick being there for discussion segments is the new normal, I'm fine with that. He thrives at discussion segments, same way he thrives at reporting on fun segments in the field, and it would be cool to have him back on his old show with Marissa in this new capacity (with Steve in the middle).

3) If this live-to-tape thing is permanent for the 8pm and 9pm ET hours, then it's time to ditch the Fox Weather Live moniker for those hours, and they should revive the Fox Weather @ Night branding for this show instead.

Side note: The fully-live editions of Fox Weather Live at 6pm and 7pm ET now use the daytime graphics that are used on the weekend morning version of the show, while the live-to-tape editions of Fox Weather Live at 8pm and 9pm ET retain the nighttime graphics. I assume that will change back to the all-nighttime motif as we head into the fall/winter.

I'm guessing if there is an outbreak is when it will be live from 12PM to 3PM M-F and have another OCM. Is Kendall doing anything in the morning show like Weather Command or Mornings with Britta & Jason? I know she was with Ian & with Steve last week filling in for Brigit & Marrisa.

As of today, Kendall was on the pre-recorded America's Weather Center while Michael was off. It seems like on the days they're both present, one of them gets assigned to America's Weather Center while the other one of them gets assigned to fill-in on any other random show on a given day.

What I also find funny is that with all his extra free time, I see Nick on Tik Tok more than I see him on Fox Weather....

I saw that they were indeed live during that timeslot today due to severe weather. When I tuned in during the 2pm ET hour, it was Kiyana solo. No idea if someone else hosted the earlier hours or if Kiyana was solo the entire time.

I don't think we've discussed this, or at least, if we did, I certainly missed it...

Haley Meier officially joined Fox Weather as a full-time meteorologist/multi-media journalist, effective July 24th.

https://www.adweek.com/tvnewser/fox-weather-names-haley-meier-as-full-time-meteorologist-and-multi-media-journalist/531034/

She was the inaugural recipient of the Fox Weather scholarship program in partnership with Mississippi State University. As part of that program, she appeared occasionally on Fox Weather this past spring, reporting on severe weather events in the southern US. Now that she has graduated, she is taking a full-time position with Fox Weather.

Her official bio refers to her as "on-air meteorologist"

 https://www.foxweather.com/person/m/haley-meier

I guess we'll see if she appears primarily in the field, primarily in studio, or both. Kinda makes it sound like both.

I see no photo of Haley I didn't see her on the Fox Weather Website either. Did Fox Weather go home after 9PM when the storms were going through WI, IA, IL that was in the very likely of strong damaging winds a little part of MI was in the very likely as well. Sure enough, WWMT said that the storms would come in at a little after 12AM the storms weakened as they came into Michigan other than back MI/IN border the storms seem to pack a punch every station cut for update other than WWMT. Wood TV was the only one to cut in at 1AM when the storm rolled in on the MI/IN border which those that live in that area watch the South Bend stations.

Why don't they use Kelly live when major storms hit for at least until 12AM unless she was when I checked it was pretape I didn't check in at 10PM hour if she was live or not. 9PM looked taped from Steve & Marissa I didn't see the live tag. I guess Fox Weather thinks that after 9PM there is no serve weather happening or that it has to be a level 4 or greater to be on air. The Weather Channel did mini updates on Fri then went to High Thru Hell repeat or whatever long-form program they air.

Brigit Mahoney has left FOX Weather. Kendall Smith posted a goodbye photo on Instagram. No word yet where Brigit is going.

Dang, that's unfortunate. I never liked the way they postured Ian as the host of the show and Brigit as the "second fiddle". Didn't seem fair to take Brigit out of a host role and move her into that type of position. I wonder if that had anything to do with her departure.

The discussion desk grew to 4 people tonight with Rick Reichmuth joining the fray.

(Yet we still can't have fully-live programming from 12pm-3pm ET anymore...)

The lack of live programs is probably more tied to production staff than on-air staff…

On weekend mornings during the hours that there's a Fox Business simulcast, Fox Weather First Weekend always takes longer breaks than normal Fox Weather programming in order to account for the longer breaks that take place on cable.

To date, on the streaming side, Fox Weather always filled this extra break time with a musical interlude featuring live camera shots from cities around the country. Looks like this weekend, they've finally decided to change it up and air actual weather information during the musical interludes, which is way more useful than the live camera shots.

Sounds very similar to how TWC does during LOT8'S, by listing various cities by region.

This is better than the webcams they had before. I just wish they did this sooner. Question... is this during all breaks or only during live programming with longform airing just the countdown clock?

I believe this is only featured during the extra time on weekend mornings when Fox Business is still in break, beyond the normal time that the stream would be in break. AFAIK, the standard stream breaks still use just the countdown clock (on streaming devices) or the "Download the Fox Weather App" slate if watching on their website.

Due to today's severe weather outbreak, America's Weather Center is fully-live today for all 3 hours. Bob Van Dillen is joining Kendall today; however, they're not being billed as co-hosts. Instead, Kendall is the sole "host", and she tosses to Bob occasionally for updates. She's at the desk, while he's standing at the video screen.

Looks like the "one host" ideology of Weather Command and Fox Weather Now has rubbed off on America's Weather Center. That leaves Fox Weather First and Fox Weather Live as the only weekday shows that still have actual co-hosts.
