Unfortunately, a lot of the speculators out there have seized on the Clinton angle in regard to Mr. Sign. Very sad. I feel badly for his kids, now having to grow up without their father.

Former anchor at Univision Chicago (WGBO), Noticiero Univision + Telemundo Chicago (WSNS), Edna Schmidt died June 24 at her home in native Puerto Rico. She was 51. Her struggle with alcoholism were well documented, which ended her time at Univision in 2011. Last seen at Telemundo Chicago in 2014, where she later ended up suing them for discrimination. No official word on the cause of death, although her former colleague stated she suffered from a fall.

This goes back a ways; I think Dobyns retired from TV in the late 1980s.

-----

MEBANE, N.C. (AP) - Lloyd Dobyns Jr., an award-winning NBC News correspondent who reported from places around the world and who anchored an innovative U.S. television newscast in the early 1980s, has died, his family said. He was 85.

Ken Dobyns said in a statement that his father died Sunday in Mebane, North Carolina, northwest of Raleigh. He said his father suffered complications from a series of strokes.

Dobyns worked for NBC News in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, and was known in the U.S. for working with Linda Ellerbee on the late-night news series “NBC News Overnight” in 1982 and 1983, according to a statement released by Ken Dobyns and online with a Raleigh funeral home.

I'm sad to announce that legendary EMMY award winning actor Edward Asner, the man that played tv news director turned newspaper editor Lou Grant on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and his own spinoff series "Lou Grant" has passed away of natural causes. Asner was 91 years old.

Even though Ed Asner played a fictional character on both shows, his "Lou Grant" character gave millions of Americans a view into a newsroom and how it works. Through his gruff and caring sides,  it showed that a news director was a person too, and had the same life struggles along with their job duties.

Not directly a broadcaster, but it's big enough in MN that competitors are covering the death of former WCCO Sports Anchor Mark Rosen's wife after a long battle with cancer. (Rosen is now with KFAN Radio)

A compilation of Smuckers Birthdays in honor of Willard. I will miss you forever and so will millions. Whether you were getting ready to go to work, or if you were a little kid watching the Macy's Parade with mom and dad, Willard was a presence that NBC can never replace. RIP forever, Willard.
