Note how this was done before football season; I will be very happy to have that white whale (ALWAYS been bad since they launched their digi signal) in my channel lineup, and this makes Green Bay an all-UHF market (including whatever Weigel's Wittenberg station will be).

The station has a college football game airing tonight. They did it at the right time.

Okay, the paperwork regarding the construction permit apps of the 18 new allotments are now up.

So small follow-up.

Last month, two permits were approved (Alexandria & Vernal).

Today (9/13), the sixteen remaining permits were granted.

New Petition. A PBS station in the Cornhusker state wants to vacate that VHF dial.

Now currently, the RF 27 allotment is occupied by an LP station KFDY-LD, owned by Flood Communications.

Of course, regular low-power stations don't get protection of their allotments. But what we have saw in Medford and in Vegas where those owners of those LPs have filed objections to those channel moves. One has settled (Medford); the other one hasn't (Vegas). It'll be interesting if Flood would follow suit and file an objection.

It's a very close Canadian Border Zone station and the allocation conflicts with CTV2's CIVI-2 up in Vancouver; CTV didn't want to move, petition would be denied (orange mark is CHEK on adjacent 16; same with KNDO).

New M&A. Marquee Broadcasting is getting another Ohio station.

They're acquiring Lima, OH's WLMA (formerly WTLW) from owner American Christian Television Services, Inc. for $2M.

I wonder if they have their sights set on taking an affiliation away or two from Block and their total monopoly on the Lima market.

First thing to handle is getting off VHF 4 (they have a translator but it can only do so much heavy lifting and you can't have everything in the market on an LD). Then accommodating those who don't want to lose a 'safe/religious' viewing option via a sub (its DT2 high school sports sub is already in wind-down mode).

Two things today.

One, it appears that Sinclair's KVII Amarillo have lit up RF 20 this week. The License to Cover app was posted today.

Also, new petition.

A PBS station in Roanoke, WBRA wants to vacate VHF-low 3 for VHF-high 13.

Anything to get off that hellhole signal is a good thing.

Was WBRA an auction participant who settled for a VHF-low alottment?

Their current signal must be a disaster if they want to move up to VHF-high.

They took that channel in '09 because of early thoughts that mountainous terrain would be V-Low friendly which proved horrifically incorrect.

It looks like they did have two full-powered (UHF) repeaters that converted to digital, but temporarily shut down due to budget cuts in 2013 and opted to auction those frequencies when the microwave link failed.

One of the repeaters (WSBN) originally had the WSVN call letters (when the current WSVN was WCKT) and WBRA was initially WBRZ's planned call letters, but they opted with the latter because, well....

Marquee is only getting the channel 4 facility and will basically have to build it from the ground up.  The former WTLW (now on WTLW-LD) and it's intellectual unit will be status quo, with their current mix of family, religious and secular programming under their existing ownership,

So updates regarding Gray's three petitions......

Gray has filed two new petitions today. Both are in the Lone Star.

So just a year after filing, the two Texas PRMs have now advanced to NPRM.

New PRM.

Gray wants Presque Isle, ME's WAGM off of VHF 8 and move to UHF 28.

Just sixteen months after this filing, Gray has withdrawn its Presque Isle petition. So WAGM will stay on VHF 8.

KTAS in San Luis Obispo, California, is being sold by the Palazuelos family to International Communications Network, Inc. for $4 million. ICN owns KSDY-LD in San Diego.

Worth noting: the Telemundo affiliation agreement is excluded from the sale!

There is a message on their site stating Telemundo Costa Central is moving to KCOY 12.1 + KKFX-CD 24.2 on February 1. These channels carry Dabl. Some years ago KCOY (VistaWest Media) was replaced with a KEYT-CBS subchannel.

Quote

Maybe they're going to try to move it to Zanesville so they can add CBS and ABC. (Or maybe even Columbus.)

The geek side of me would love this. I've never tried to tune in a low VHF before and I'd love to see if it's as bad as people say.

Petition the FCC for a move to UHF? Maybe there's room for that in Zanesville. Might be able to eat away at the Columbus Market with all four Network affiliates. Places like Athens don't get Columbus signals anyway. Columbus could drop down a few pegs if Zanesville ends up taking counties away. Will the powers that be let that happen?

Imagine if they move this to Columbus, putting VHF 4 on Ohio State's 1200 foot tower in Westerville (which is already on high ground, I beleive). That signal would travel a long way. Columbus stations should be proactive in these outlying areas if they want to protect their turf. They need to fire up LPTV's in Athens, Cambridge and places like that.
