KUSA Virtual Set

KUSA is now using a virtual set for the Mountain Newsroom in Frisco, CO.    This is the first time I have ever seen a virtual set for the mountain newsroom, that newsroom was established sometime in early 1999, they are usually out on location.

Here is a picture:

Would not shock me if the reporter's green-screening it at home, which necessitated the virtual set.

Why not just acknowledge that?  The other TEGNA stations are... 🤔

KPIX was also testing an emergency studio set up the other day.

Guessing they're at Sutro Tower, which has served as a emergency studio at least once in the past (at least for KRON.)

Should something happen at KPIX, don't be surprised if you see KOVR take over and simulcast across both markets. The technology is already in place for that to happen.

That would be acknowledging that they didn't have a mountain bureau.

Most bureaus these days are just at the reporter's house.

KNBC's Orange County Bureau is at an office complex in Orange County. OC Bureau Chief Vikki Vargas has done several tag outs from there. You can see behind her on the door where it says "NBC 4 News OC Bureau." KABC has an actual office for their IE Bureau as well. I believe KTLA OC reporter Chip Yost has a KTLA mircrovan that he takes home and that is utilized as a rolling office.

KTVU and KGO has office space in San Jose.

KGO doesn’t have a camera set up but you see it in the tease before the news open with a reporter and photographer walking between cubicles.

KTVU has a camera setup with a blue wall that says FOX 2 NEWS San Jose Studio

KPIX seems to be out of reporters homes.

KNTV has a bureau inside the NBC Sports Bay Area building in San Francisco.

In addition to KNTV's bureau at the CSN building in SOMA, I believe they also have a crew based in Oakland. Not sure if they have an actual office space or not though.

The KTVU South Bay bureau was in the old KICU building in North San Jose until about four years ago when they moved into the building across from city hall. They had a huge space on a high level floor with windows overlooking San Jose. You'd see it whenever they'd do talkbacks with Mayor Sam Liccardo. They've since moved to a smaller space on a lower floor once they realized they leased way more space than they actually needed. They also have a San Francisco bureau at the Hall of Justice.
