News here from Detroit

Five channels switched over to 3.0 including the big 4 networks.

Scripps' WMYD (MNT / 20) + WXYZ (ABC / 7), Fox's WJBK (2), Graham's WDIV (NBC / 4), and CBS's WWJ (62)

WMYD is the host station.

Coming with this development is the "the launch of the “Motown 3.0 Open Test Track” for merging automotive applications with NextGen TV."

More as follows:

Initial participants in the Motown project are LG Electronics, Amazon Web Services, and LTN Global.

Seems strange that CBSTVS elected to have WWJ be a 3.0 participant, but not have WKBD sign on a 3.0 signal as well.

I'm sure there's [whatever reasons] but it's a good point considering WKBD is basically CBS's current primary news outlet in Detroit.

There could be a variety of reasons such as no space left on the signal.

WMYD is currently the only "host" station in 3.0.  It currently has the 5 streams on it....which seems like a lot, because the ones i've seen have only up to 3 on them.

CBS may choose to either convert WKBD or WWJ to 3.0 as well in the future.  It's just a matter of shoehorning the existing 1.0 content onto available space between the participants.

As promised, Portland (OR) witnessed deployment of ATSC 3.0 tech across seven stations on July 28, covering pretty much most of the English-language programming in the area.

  • Meredith - KPTV (Fox 12) + KPDX ("Fox 12 Plus")
  • Nexstar - KOIN (CBS) + KRCW (CW)
  • Sinclair - KATU (ABC)
  • Tegna - KGW (NBC)
  • Oregon Public Broadcasting - KOPB (PBS)

Portland will be the host of a cable TV test for 3.0 technology. All stations that transitioned earlier this year will work together with Comcast to "test how NextGen TV signals could best be transmitted by cable TV systems."

KMGH Moved frequencies at 7AM this morning.  And KWGN Moved frequencies at 11:55AM this morning.

KWGN to physical channel 36 from 34, KMGH to physical channels 7 & 30 from 17.  KMGH also Moved there main transmitter to the KSBS-DT tower & now shares tower space with KSBS & KCDO.

KUSA, KCNC, KTVD & KDVR are un-affected at this time.

**KDVR, KMGH, KUSA, & KWGN are now showing as HEVC signals**

KMGH didn't move frequencies. KMGH's main signal is still on RF 7. And of course their translator KZCO-LD (RF 30).

But since Scripps bought KCDO & KSBS, they have added the 7.1 feed on KCDO (RF 23) & KSBS-CD (RF 19).

But staying on topic, it appears that KWGN (RF 34) is the ATSC 3 test station carrying KWGN, KDVR, KMGH & KUSA main feeds.

This explains why the ATSC 1 feed of KWGN is now on RF 36 (KDVR's RF ch.)

Accompanying Denver article here: https://tvnewscheck.com/article/257340/nexstar-launches-nextgen-tv-in-denver/

The article also includes a list of Nexstar stations that have converted to 3.0 this year.

A development re: Seattle - https://tvnewscheck.com/article/257329/one-media-3-0-launches-stirr-radio-app-in-seattle/

ONE Media 3.0 (owned by Sinclair) has combined both TV and radio so viewers can now receive programming from both mediums in the new format.

The service is marketed as STIRR XT, which first appeared in Nashville as a pilot.

The radio channels will be available to anyone with a NextGen TV connected to the internet.

Definitely 3.0 related especially if 28.1 remains as the PSIP assignment.

Columbus could be all hands on deck since Sinclair, Nexstar and Tegna are all part of the same partnership.   The question is, which station will be the 3.0?

WWHO is the host. WTTE is being used to host WWHO's CW and Charge subs (Comet to WCMH). I don't see anything related to WBNS, but it definitely will include WCMH.

In wonder whether Portland, Maine is also an all hands on deck market with Hearst in the market along with Tegna and Sinclair along with the possibility that FOX moves from WPFO to WGME?

According to Rabbitears.info, WTTE's FOX feed is now on WSYX's feed as 6.3 (or 28.3, which is WSYX's actual channel....confusing, isn't it!)

They're still on WTTE 28.1 as well, but for how long?  WWHO 53.1 (still maps as such, is on WTTE 27.6)

I sense a license separation coming between the two shells and Sinclair in Columbus.

I'm in the market, and Sinclair-owned Dielectric is headquartered here. You'd think our market would be an ideal test bed, but nope. I hope we finally start to see some action on ATSC 3.0. WPFO has moved its TL to the Raymond WGME stick (it was previously in Litchfield, co-located with Maine Public's WCBB.)

Kansas City, MO is supposed to get ATSC 3.0 by the end of Summer 2021.

To be a little more clear, it KSHB-TV, Ch. 41 & KMCI-TV, Ch. 38, both of which are owned by Scripps, that are supposed to launch ATSC 3.0 by the end of Summer 2021. In prepration for this, Bounce TV, Court TV, Court TV Mystery, Grit & Laff are also supposed to move to subchannels of KPXE-TV, Ch. 50, which Scripps has bought & spun off to INYO Broadcast Holdings, which has made an agreement with Scripps to carry Ion & the other Katz diginets.
