KMBC new set

Looks like they have a very large space to work with. I didn’t know that the studio was open to two sides. I’d be curious to see if they close up / block out the area where the current translucent windows are or just reorient the studio.

About time to change the set to match the logo and graphics and I have noticed that they’re anchoring in the newsroom inches from the temporary set. Many stations anchor in the temporary area so they won’t get distracted from construction going on

The newsroom flows seamlessly into the studio portion, but I never realized how large that studio portion was. I bet it'll be a nightmare once they start hammering/drilling/etc because the only thing dividing the two are those black curtains. As for those windows, part of me kind of hopes they don't. It always aged pretty well. The control room is behind those windows and I feel they'd like to keep that scenery.

Hearst's Set-In-A-Box.

It's an upgrade over the 12-year-old look they had before, and certainly better than the Scripps set-in-a-box KSHB has. Looks great for Kansas City.

The space looks absolutely massive (because it is). Only complaint is with how small the desk is relative to everything else.

I'm not a fan of the skyline shot being used in the early evening, which is when I see their news. Something's off about the color, in my opinion. Otherwise, it's a good upgrade, but more could have been done with the space (i.e. interview set).

Didn't even notice, but totally. Who cuts off a skyline? There's also that entire wall with the glass hallway that apparently is just dark space now? It's a huge space, why let a third of it sit empty?

Here are some images of how it looks on air. A couple of critiques I have is that when the talent is standing in front of any of the monitors looks like they are pushed up against the monitor as close as they can. With some much room in the studio I think they should move them forward and add some depth! I'm also not sure why they put all the monitors so close together and right next to each other up against the wall. In both the times they used the monitor off to the right the talent was covering up part of the text that filled the monitor. Overall a HUGE improvement from their previous set.
