They should just go to a 7-day forecast template - -  the 5 day forecast with "weekend always in view" will never EVER work... just give up on 5-day forecast peeps... it's 2019...

7 Day Outlook is fine but just don't go overboard and show anything beyond 7 days like what everybody not named KOKH has done in OKC (as a matter of fact, I don't recall anybody else in the country besides OKC where you have a 9, 10 and 11-day outlooks (KTUL's 8-day outlook is the only other one that comes to mind for me)

"Weekend Always In View" is Cox's way of saying "7-day forecast". It's not just at WSB.

The big red 9's been doing this stuff for years. These days, they only have enough room for 5 panels, so they 'extend' it by removing the first 2.

Most meteorologists worth their weight will tell you extended forecasts don't mean much outside of Day 4. But we've long been in an era where consultants preach the need to show the weekend forecast for viewers as a beacon of hope - that's how we got to 7-days in the first place. 10-days were popular at one point when they REALLY didn't have much accuracy to them - and they largely still don't today.

I'm guessing WSB's solution was a mix of consultants' demand about the weekend and their weather team's insistence it wouldn't mean much most of the time.

To bump this thread I think WSB is about to roll out some new graphics very soon possibly a slight change to the logo this is from tonight’s 11pm newscast

I hope so. With the new open and new weather graphics, a (much-needed) graphics overhaul to the remainder seemed inevitable.

That being said, was this during the sports segment? They’ve been using the “slanted” version of the blue background for sports for a while.

It was at the top of the newscast...also they have started to use the slanted version of the blue background in their recent promos

Gotcha. Admittedly, I haven’t been watching much of WSB (or TV In general) lately, so I haven’t seen this. Thanks!

WSB has introduced slightly new L3's - also a new bug in the right had corner - the time and temp layout reminds me of the scripps new look

Just saw these. I like them. Though, given the weather graphics, I was expecting something more like a full overhaul than this. But I think it took the look they’ve had for a while and cleaned it up. They definitely don’t look as “busy” as they did before.

So, I'm not sure if this is for special COVID-19 coverage, but it looks like they finally dropped the rest of their new graphics.  These certainly closely resemble the weather graphics launchd some months ago.  Another part of me wonders if this is just for the 11:00 newscast, since it looks like they've rebranded it as WSB TONIGHT in lieu of the long running "Nightbeat":

This is solely for the 11 o’clock. I know because WFTV and WSOC are doing the same concept (coronavirus impact on their respective markets), but with their own visual spin.

Interesting. But, I think they are using the opportunity to test out the new look. I'll have to see it animated, but it looks good!

Ah gotcha. Well, I hope there’s more of this to come, as I actually like these a lot.

Me too - WSOC has had their graphics since the DNC in 2012. These 11:00 graphics are great, compared to what was there before. I am hoping that this will result in a graphics overhaul for the station, as I think the '12 light flares have ran their course. It is simple enough and is less intrusive as their previous graphics. Hopefully this is the test run for a refresh!

Very PBS-ish look here.

I see those gfx working on WSOC but it needs some work.  And btw, why are they branding as WSOC instead of using the well-established '9' logo & branding?

I did notice that. What's interesting, is they still refer to everything as "Channel 9". I don't necessarily "Hate" using the call letters, but 9 is so much better, IMO

I mean, its only temporary. If they still call themselves Channel 9, its because they still do. They're just using the WSOC brand only for the 11:00 p.m. news, nothing more. Because even the station would hate to use their call sign all throughout the day. Channel 9 is just much easier to say and they know that.
