2019 MLB Season

With spring training kicking off next week, and big announcer moves happening, might as well start this thread now.

Here’s the new Red Sox radio team. With the addition of Berman and McDonough, that’s now one current and two former ESPNers now calling Red Sox games. Also, Mario Impemba managed to land on his feet after that skirmish with Rod Allen. Too many cooks in the kitchen, IMO.

Johnny Holliday and Ray Knight are no longer part of MASN's pre/post game coverage for the Nats.  Former field-level reporter Dan Kolko was bumped up to co-host with Bo Porter.

Replacing Kolko on the field will be Alex Chappell.  She previously worked for ESPN & the SEC Network covering college football, as well as a similar position with Fox Sports Sun covering the Tampa Bay Rays under her maiden name Alex Corddry.

Reminds me of the Cardinals radio booth during Jack Buck's later years in his broadcasting career. It wasn't quite as big of a mess as the Red Sox radio announcers are but still, it was a mess in St. Louis

Boston isn't the only one in the AL East with major changes to the radio booth. Joe Angel confirmed his retirement today. His now-former partner Jim Hunter would be next in line, but since he's also backup PBP to Gary Thorne at MASN, that's a wide open spot to fill between now and Opening Day.

Even in their final season televising sports, WGN has come up with revision # 1 million to their score graphic that was modified numerous times last season. For the first time, they've finally got the teams' logos and colors featured in the graphic.

Edit: They had the home and road teams reversed, which led to problems when the Brewers hit a 2-run homer. It took them a few tries to fix it.

NESN debuts a graphics update. Looks like a heavy refresh, keeping the familiar fonts and color scheme.

At this point NESN needs to go back to the drawing board. Their look has really gotten stale.

In a sport where MASN is trotting out the same look for the 11th season in a row, NESN doesn't look all that bad.

Seriously, MASN's graphics have started to become a meme akin to the WNBC red line on the old LND circa 2002.

MASN is a special case.

Blue Jays Central has a new, flatter graphics package. Unfortunately, only inserts and fullscreens are using it: the actual L3 graphics are still using the existing look (but I hope the big reveal happens when we get in-game).

New intro too. Very slick (although their old intro was pretty cool too, it reaked of their obsession with photorealistic 3D)

But still no new L3s, in that Canadian tradition of inconsistent rollouts.

edit: We did however, join the augmented strike zone club, and get a new scoreboard: went from a bottom bar to a corner box with essentially the same layout as Fox's (right down to the pitcher/batter above it), but in Sportsnet's ice blue and slight gloss (although it does seem a little flatter).

And also the first #chyronfail of the season

Like the new set at the Rogers Centre (SkyDome if you will).

I noticed that the desk in their big studio the other night had a physical version of the Sportsnet logo covering the video tiles.  Wonder if there's some other changes being planned.

I've wondered why they haven't gone all-in on the hockey look (desks/backgrounds, etc...).

They seem to rely on their hockey travelling desk quite a bit.
