I like Spring Rubber’s comments about NBC keeping SNF. I think the NFL likes the Sunday package with FOX and CBS. ABC desperately wants a NFL package( Monday or Thursday) and a Super Bowl.. It seems like none of the networks wants the Thursday package except AMAZON and the NFL Network.  Fox likely overpaid for THNF.

There's no other way to put this, but the NFL must be smoking the crack rock if they want a 100% rights fee increase.  I'm sure it's probably just a negotiating ploy, but this past Super Bowl had the lowest ratings since 2007.  2020 regular season ratings have declined 7% according to Nielsen.  Crappy ratings like that don't justify a rights increase at all.  I could see an increase like that maybe thirty years ago, but not the way the TV business is today.  I think we're going to see a serious shuffling of how major league sports is delivered to the viewer in the next 5-10 years.  Sounds to me like the NFL is trying to milk what will probably be their last big TV deals with the broadcast networks.

Yes asking for a 100% increase is all part of the negotiation,  the NFL doesn't expect to get that. As for ratings being lower,  the NFL still gets the highest ratings on TV and the league's ratings drop is lower than most stuff on TV. The networks need the NFL and the league knows that. It'll get at least a 50% increase in rights fees.
