I think you mean, "you've got The Young and the Restless or The Bold and the Beautiful on CBS just eating everyone's lunch otherwise." Y&R airs at 12:30 on most CBS stations in the Eastern and Pacific Time Zones, B&B airs at that slot in the other time zones and on any CBS stations in the Pacific Time Zone that follow the Central/Mountain scheduling for the daytime lineup (assuming that there are any).

Actually, most Pacific stations I believe air Y&R at 11:30am.

Actually the Pacific Time Zone follows the Central/Mountain daytime pattern so B&B usually airs at 12:30 in that time zone as well.

Or 11, depending on if their news airs at noon.

New M&A tonight. Weigel is making another purchase.

They're buying Glenwood Springs, CO's KREG-TV from Marquee Broadcasting for $2M.

This was the former satellite of Grand Junction's CBS station KREX-TV. During Gray's acquisition of the station's former owner, Hoak in 2014, Gray decided to keep its incumbent NBC outlet KKCO, and spin-off KREX (and its satellites) to Nexstar. Nexstar spun-off satellite KREG in 2017 to Marquee to alleviate national cap space after its purchase of Media General.

The FCC greenlighted the deal today.

Programming note/reminder to any TVNT users to have YouTube accounts and video capture devices: KOCO is celebrating its 65th anniversary of broadcasting (nine years as an Enid station [the latter seven of which it had acted as an Enid and Oklahoma City station, outside of licensing and documents] and 56 years as an Oklahoma City station) with the latest edition of its KOCO 5 Chronicle series of specials.

The hour-long special, KOCO 5 Chronicle: Celebrating 65 Years of Service!, airing at 9:00 p.m. tonight (July 30), will take a look at the station's history, including memorable former personalities and programs (such as Ida "Ida B." Blackburn and Ho Ho the Clown aka Ed Birchall), the evolution of its weather technology, and major news stories chronicled by the station over the years.

Here is a cool little story about a guy who worked at QTV in Queensland , and hid a bunch of  news archive film from his bosses so it wouldn't get thrown in the trash...

Because of the deadly massacre in El Paso, David Muir and Lester Holt both anchored a special edition of ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News in El Paso while Norah O'Donnell anchored in the CBS Evening News in NYC, but she'll be in El Paso to anchor special coverage tomorrow for CBS This Morning and CBS Evening News. Muir and Holt continues to anchor live tomorrow in El Paso.

I was watching a little bit of the El Paso local coverage on the Nexstar station there (Channel 9). A prank caller called into the station claiming she was in the movie theater at the mall and her aunt was shopping in the mall and they put her on the air. She was dropping references to 8-chan, white supremacy and how they were ushered out of the movie theater and scared because of the rumors that African migrants were raping people at the mall. She was basically mocking all conventional talking points before she called the reporter a dumb f*** for believing her and hung up the phone.

Edit: I found it but the volume is low:

One more hour and they'll be able to wish Arizona a Good Afternoon at the end.

Or a Good Day as 3TV used to have an 11:00 a.m. newscast called Good Day Arizona.

Give kudos to Mike Nurse for staying there that long, five years after the Lighthouse took over.

I strongly don't believe any changes in management is going to change the status quo. Viewership habits are hard to change.

Even though the other two stations aren't exactly doing that well either.

New M&A.

Entravision is buying a Harlingen, TX station, KMBH from MBTV Texas Valley, LLC, for $2.9M. Entravision already owns a Univision affiliate KNVO, and a plethora of LPs airing Fox & The CW.

KMBH was a former PBS station, before it was sold to the current owners. But they kept the PBS feed, aibeit on the station's subchannel (38.2). I'm not sure how long that's going to last under Entravision's ownership.

R Communications et al. wants to sell everything, doesn't it... Some of the Mexican stations are going to Radio Ultra S.A. de C.V.; Multimedios wants some of the US stations in the RGV and Laredo markets; and now even KMBH.

As to plans, all we know is that "Entravision does not propose to operate KMBH as an affiliate of any of the Univision television networks". I wonder if they are going to use KMBH to broadcast their Fox and CW streams, which are on LPTVs. (Big-brain idea: Entravision should donate some of the LPTVs for public broadcasting, perhaps to UTRGV or KEDT up in Corpus!)

All that's left of that company is KQUR Laredo, which MBM programs under LMA, and three radio stations in Del Rio, Texas.

There's also a non-compete/anti-poaching agreement that terminates if and when MBM gets the green light to fully exit the market on both sides:

Quote

Each of (i) Buyer and its Affiliates, on the one hand, and (ii) Seller and its Seller Affiliates, on the other hand, agree not to, directly or indirectly, for a period of one (1) year from and after the Closing Date, solicit, induce, attempt to persuade or hire any employee of the other based  in  the  Market,  provided,  however,  that  this  Section  5.06 does  not  restrict  general solicitations  not  specifically  directed  at  the  other’s  employees,  employees  of  a  party  who approach the other or its Affiliates, or employees no longer employed by the other party or its Affiliates.   The time period referred to in this Section 5.06 shall be tolled on a day-for-day basis for each day during which a party participates in any activity in violation of this Section 5.06 so that each party shall be restricted from engaging in the conduct referred to in this Section 5.06 for the full period contemplated hereby. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the provisions of this Section 5.06 shall terminate in the event that Seller and its Seller Affiliates shall no longer have any ownership interest in ANY Person that owns or operates a radio or television station: (x) licensed by the FCC to a community located in the Market or (y) holding a concession from the government of the United Mexican States to serve a community within 50 miles of McAllen, Texas in the United Mexican States.

Well... it looks like public broadcasting in the Rio Grande Valley will become no more once KMBH drops PBS under Entravision. They don't even have an NPR outlet right now after what was the NPR outlet was sold to a local religious broadcaster and became a religious station. So yeah... not good.

KLKN has announced a new general manager. Kern Dant will replace Roger Moody who has been with the station since 1997 (KLKN signed on in 1996) and is a member of the Nebraska Broadcasters Hall of Famw. Kern Dant's father was the first GM in '96.

The Standard Media sale, by the way, is expected to be completed early September.

It looks as if Deb McDermott wants to return KLKN to its roots (which that makes sense considering that McDermott has a history in Lincoln)

I'd be very interested to see what McDermott does with WLNE (which that station out of the 2 stations Standard acquired is in need of some serious work)

Both could use some serious work, really.
