She has had a rough history... not sure how to feel about her running a station...

How so? She worked at number of stations. She also worked at WXYZ started in the 80s and have several jobs at Channel 7. In the 2000s she was news director.

She like everyone in VP role. She'll be there for sometime and get burned out, and leave to spend more time with her family. Plus make alot of money in the process. She'll be ok, but no worse than all the others that came before her or after her.

KOCO is not in last place and neither is KSTP.

Oh, really? Anyone familiar with Minneapolis TV can tell you KSTP has been in the gutter since ... forever. Thus the neverending tweaks, including talent. Hello, Paul. OKC might have a little more wiggle room depending on how well KOCO did in any given book and how poorly KOKH may have done. If your idea of successful is fighting for 3rd or 4th place, local TV isn't for you.

Children, children now now now. KOCO has been in third place, but during a decade ago when Oprah was on at 5,6, it did really well. There been sometime where it was very competitive. As for KSTP it has been a revolving door. However it hasn't always been third. WCCO & KSTP use to fight it out. At one time in the 70s KSTP had a 50 share, and yes that was decades ago. However, the cracks at KSTP started in the 80s. Channel 11 was sold from MetroMedia to Gannett and Gannett poured alot of money and NBC was riding high. By the end of 80s into 90s. KSTP news moved into third place in all dayparts.

KSTP has always had a great news product, but the faces changed daily due to Frank Magid consultants who were college friends with Stanley Hubbard [even friends you are still giving me bad advice IMO]. If you can go and read the stories about Stanely Hubbard. They're legendary! He had issues with Ron Magers, saying Ron was doing drugs and Stanely sent Ron to a rehab place. Stanely Hubbard had some of the female talent desk locked and chained. Even memebers of the station said Stanely is his own worst enemy. Then there was the Cyndy Brucato debacle. She was the face of the station in the early days, and research wasn't too kind. The consultants said she was too manly on the news, and she was outsted and then appeared on the new NEWS 11 W*USA but doing some light reporting. While Stanely Hubbard was being a terror over in Golden Valley, Gannett had a win-win team at now KARE 11. Paul Magers, picked up where his little brother was the king of the Twin Cities News for 20 years . Also Paul Magers worked at KSTP as a dispatcher when Ron was there.

Stanely Hubbard rested on his laurels and the quote he said was "Nobody ever watch Channel 11, so we never took them serious, and thought who would watch their news." You can never rest on your competition and why didn't his best friend Frank Magid didn't tell him that or, maybe he did? The station has always invested in the tools, and throughout the 90s same old story faces come and go. They were able to get Colleen Needles from WCCO, but she left on her own. She has a production company that produce many reality shows that on cable now. Julie Nelson was able to move to from the morning to succeed Colleen to find herself getting a good deal from KARE 11 where she had to sit out for a year on her non compete. Harris Faulkner moved up to evening news and the ratings didn't move and she went over to WCCO now at FOX NEWS. Now with the pie so fragmented there been a few times where KSTP in early evening at #2 or #3. KMSP has step their game up, and despite Gannett/TEGNA woes KARE is not the break out star it once was, but it still solid.

It hard to find ratings online but here some old ratings from both markets.

What seems to be the reasoning as to why in some places, the local newspapers don't even post about the ratings sweeps periods?

What seems to be the reasoning as to why in some places, the local newspapers don't even post about the ratings sweeps periods?

A whole slew of reasons depending on many, many factors.

Email your local newspaper editor and ask them.

Maybe they think there is no local interest, maybe they don't have the people to do so, maybe the ratings services don't make the info available.

Ask the source...ask the editors of the newspaper.

KTRK Chief Meteorologist Tim Heller announced that he’s retiring in January 2019 after 30+ years in broadcasting.

I’ve watched Tim on channel 13 since I can rememberer. Hoping that Travis Herzog gets the bump up to Chief. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1418823828217183

Hard to believe Tim is at a "retirement" age. He sure looked young when he did weather in DFW. Good luck to him... hope he finds something fulfilling.

So that means, unless they hire another male anchor, we could be looking at something seldom, if ever, attempted in local television, where each of a single station's weekday anchor teams are both the same gender.

Keep in mind that Abigail Ogle was promoted to weekday evenings eleven months ago, and now co-anchors the 6:00 p.m. newscast (in addition to reporting at 5:00 and 10:00 p.m.). Around the same time, Maggie Carlo took over as weekday morning co-anchor alongside Markie Martin, with whom Abigail co-anchored on the 4:30-7:00 and 9:00 a.m. broadcasts beforehand.

I realize I should have clarified that it would probably be the first time that a station had all-female anchor teams for their weekday morning/daytime and evening newscasts. Usually, a two-female anchor team is assigned to only one daypart, like with the Robin Marsh-Lacie Lowry pairing on KWTV's morning newscast and the Sade Baderinwa-Diana Williams pairing on WABC's weekday 5:00 p.m. news hour.

A KUSA viewer took exception to the "end of the world" music that NBC chose for the SCOTUS special report:

Good lord people can be stupid. But Kyle Clark hit the nail on the head with that one and handled it better than I ever could.

Joy Redmond has joined WMC as their new morning anchor alongside Andrew Douglas. She left WLBT in June and starts at WMC Monday morning. She replaces Felicia Bolton, who left the station in February. WMC's previous morning anchor, Kym Clark, had been filling in for the interim months.

With this development, Kym will likely be able to finally return to her new shift of noon and 3:30/4PM (which she only got to anchor for a limited time before having to return to mornings to fill in). On the 3:30 and 4PM shows, she'll be anchoring with Joyce Peterson, who has been holding down those timeslots alongside a daily rotation of either Joe Birch or Kontji Anthony (the station's 5, 6, and 10PM anchors) since March. Joyce herself only joined WMC in February, but is no stranger to Memphis news.

Also joining WMC as reporters later this month are Kelly Roberts, formerly of WANE, and Allie Herrera, formerly of WJFW. All of this information comes from various tweets I've been able to find.

WXYZ was #1 under her. Bill Carey didn't do anything earth shattering IMO.

It slowly disintegrated from 2004 until she was fired in 2010. Bill Carey actually brought it to number 1 before he left and she inherited that.

Or, have watched any NBC News Special Report since "The Mission/The Pulse of Events" began being used by the network 33 years ago, depending on how old he is.

At first I thought "The Pulse of Events" was used for Meet the Press a decade or so before it doubled as a breaking news music theme.

When did Carey come in to town? 2000 or 2001? I remember the news article that WJBK 10pm was nipping on WXYZ 11pm. The article went on how Neil Goldstein then ND at FOX 2 brought the morale up. I remember around 04/05 XYZ & ABC was riding high. It seem once Grace Gilchrist retired and Marla Drutz was passed over for her job, and she went over to DIV. The change in numbers started and Scripps went bipolar on those in-house shows. Maybe towards her end the numbers came down. Once Oprah left the airwaves that 5pm news crashed. That was a stable #1 then.

Carey came in late in 2000 and turned the whole thing into a WABC clone. Oprah had her final show after it fell off a cliff around mid 2008 or so and then Andrea was gone by 2010.

There's been alot of Gray/Raycom news lately. Let me add another......

The Augusta Chronicle stated yesterday (7/12) that Gray has broken ground on a brand new facility for WRDW & WAGT, which is slated to open in 2020. The facility will replace a studio WRDW has been in for over six decades.

They've been planning on doing that for over a year now, and had planned on breaking ground sometime in April. They still think the entire building will be completed by next Masters in early April 2019. However, there's an issue because the property is directly adjacent to a Georgia Power substation and has power lines running through it, meaning there's zoning issues. I anticipate that will hold them up for awhile.

In fact their Chief Photographer posted some pictures from the groundbreaking including a couple renderings to his Twitter account:

Two major newscast changes to note in Indianapolis:

* WRTV has cancelled its weekend morning newscasts; the Saturday editions have been replaced with a repeat of Pickler and Ben at 6:00 a.m., Newsy Special Report at 9:00 a.m. and Women of Power at 9:30 a.m. and the Sunday broadcasts have been replaced with religious programming from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. Good Morning America has been shifted to the 8:00 a.m. timeslot on both days, replacing the first half of the 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday block and the half-hour 8:00 a.m. Sunday block

* WXIN has cut back Fox 59 NewsPoint at 11:00 to weeknights only, with Fox’s Saturday late-night block being moved up a half-hour, while repeats of The Simpsons will take over that slot on Sundays.

WGRZ's Kevin O'Connell is departing the station after 25 years.

For game show fans out there like myself, O'Connell will always be remembered as the host of the NBC short lived series "GO". Loved that show.
