Pittsburgh Television weather and the City of Pittsburgh will never be the same without the Dean of Pittsburgh Weather... Joe DeNardo... you're

irreplaceable... you're a quintessential weatherman... and when we look to skies tonight and when on sunny days and stormy nights; we see what's

happening in the weather... Joe Said It Would.

RIP Joe DeNardo and Godspeed.

Thoughts and prayers to Joe's family and the entire team of WTAE Action News 4.

Joe was the best to have ever done it in Pittsburgh, no doubt about that.

For the record, MTV-U isn't dead but its more redundant now as CheddarU has already started broadcasting.

Why Viacom hasn't just killed all the SD video networks (I know the answer, and it involves the symbol $ and retrans) is confusing. Now that MTV Live is the only network carrying them in HD format, watching them in stretched out SD seems like a dumb thing in 2018 when a simple query gets it on YouTube easily.

Didn't years ago WTVC do a newscast that was very similar to this, blatantly calling it "NewsChannel 9 For Women"?

WOTV still has their 'for women' gimmick, but now it's mostly just medical segments and purposeful scheduling of programming under Nexstar (thankfully).

Didn't share this news on here when it first happened, but George Elliott, former meteorologist for WECT, feature reporter for WWAY, and OCM for The Weather Channel in the 1980's is back in the hospital with an infection from the injuries he suffered after being hit by a truck on his bicycle last month.

Wilmington Police are still looking for the hit-and-run suspect.

Chicago Tonight reporter and host Elizabeth Brackett was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday after being hit by a car last week has passed away. She was on a ventilator and in a coma and suffered at least one fractured vertebrae. Sympathies go out to her and her family.

Initial speculation was that she had been hit. Based on her injuries, doctors and even her coach believe she fell off the bike.

Here's the story from a reputable journalist...

Why do we need TWO weather anchors on the same show?

Sister stations WCAU & WRC also follows this same practice.

I don't understand that either. WKBW used to do this and failed miserably and their morning news is still in last place.

Samantha Davies is a meteorologist, but she only does traffic on the AM show. There's no Wx tag-teaming with Grant Johnston.

KNSD does the same thing. Jodi is the meteorologist and does the weather in the morning. Whitney just does traffic and then does weather for Midday.

Another great example... WPVI Philadelphia.

Karen Rogers and David Murphy are both meteorologists. David is the one who does the weather in the morning while Karen does the traffic, but fills-in for David when he's out.

Try WOIO/WUAB in Cleveland. Jeff Tanchak and Jason Nicholas both do weather in the evenings, except Jason is officially the chief meteorologist. Tanchak does weather at 4 and 9 while Jason is on at 5, 6, 10, and 11.

I can see having 2 if there's a special/severe situation, but in regular plain-vanilla weather days, the #2 would have to do something else (a-la Samantha on KXAS) like swap out every other weather segment, or one be there while the other gets a swig of something or goes to the bathroom.

WNYT does this too - Bob Kovachick and Paul Caiano do weather at the 4:00-6:00pm slots. I bet this is either to force Bob K into retirement or they give the opportunity of having one weather anchor in the studio while the other reports live from a remote location (an example was Bob at Albany’s Alive at Five a few weeks ago).

To prove that TV weather is more accurate and more friendly than internet or smartphone weather.

It's one of the few beaches left where the weather battle can still be fought.

Root for them...or they may just be gone soon and replaced by some AI app named "Doris"..

When WBAL did it it was always the male meteorologist in studio tossing to the female who’d do today’s weather and would interview some business. It stopped when I guess they went more news intensive in the AM.

Then...you have stations like WPMI that make you keep score with their morning anchor team, since they have Kelly Foster doing double duty as a meteorologist and co-anchor to Darwin Singleton two days a week, and as a co-anchor joined by Jake Dunne the other 3 (who works on the weekends and fills in for the often-missing chief Chris Dunn).

Translation...they were too cheap to hire a replacement for Kelly Jones when she left and gave Kelly Foster some anchor time....

Gary Radnich is retiring at KRON after a stellar and amazing 34 years. He plans to remain until the end of August and they'll air a tribute show on him on September 1st but will continue to do his sports radio show at 680 KNBR.
