Radio and television audiences across Jackson, MS were without some television stations and a radio station on this day 20 years ago. WLBT-TV's nearly 2,000' transmitter tower crashed killing three people. WLBT's tower was also shared by WMSI-FM, WMPN-TV and numerous other systems and government agencies. Luckily, WLBT had a back-up 200' transmitter on-site. This would be the second time the station would have to replace the tower with the first crash resulting from a tornado.

Wilson Stribling has this report from the late Bert Case:

KYTX has made changes to its morning show after the departure of previous co-anchor Clint Yeatts. The news show will now be dubbed "The Morning Loop" (other than KYTX being located on Loop 323 in Tyler, I'm not sure why that name). A new co-anchor, Mike Davis, will join recently-promoted Jen Moynihan (previously a weekend anchor at KYTX); the new anchors and new name will begin Oct. 30.

Looks like Sam Shane is out after about a dozen years as KOVR’s weeknight anchor in Sacramento. I’m surprised, but I really think they need some personnel changes anyway; the 10pm show is getting stale. I just hope CBS doesn’t get any ideas to try and Tegna-ize the place.

For whatever reason, the article on Robert Van Winkle's retirement has been pulled, though it still shows up in Google News.

Apparently his mother, who lives in Arizona, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in May, though he had planned to retire before that diagnosis.

Allyson Rae returns to Waterman after a stint in DC to replace him. She will become the chief met in November, and Van Winkle will leave in March, depending on what goes on with his mom.

Van Winkle has been with Waterman for 31 years, 17 in Charlottesville at WVIR and the last 14 at WBBH.

Question is when will he be on air since allyson was in his 5-6-11 slot

I was watching the world series and it looks like WKBN is changing female anchors again. This time on the morning news, didn't catch the name. They seem to leave abruptly there, and it seems like its only with the male anchors.

KCTV and ex-chief meteorologist Chris Suchan parted ways last week. Former KSHB meteorologist Brett Anthony is back in town to work at KCTV (unknown shift).

Here at WDAF-TV, we have promoted Megan Dillard from reporter to weekend evening co-anchor.

Well helloooooo there. Didn't expect that one. That's a pretty good get.

Congrats to WRAL meteorologist/producer Nate Johnson on the new gig with NBC O&O's as Director of Weather Operations.

Add this to the list of WRAL exits within the next year. Bill Leslie and David Crabtree announced their retirements effective next year, Lynda Loveland is leaving at the end of the year, and longtime reporter Julia Sims (née Lewis) is leaving as well.

This almost reads like a market consolidation move. They wanted to be Alaska's Fox affiliate.

Remember, they placed a condition in KYES transaction that it couldn't acquire another big-4 affiliate on KYES for two years (ending in mid-2018). If this condition was never made, I wouldn't been surprised if Gray would've tried to turn KYES into a Fox affiliate and would've probably kept Fox in Fairbanks. But the only issue is Gray doesn't have presence in the capital. And KYUR owners already had Fox in Juneau, so it seems that it was a great fit.

But for a big broadcaster in the state with massive national scale to lose the Fox affiliation in one of the markets, this is nothing more than a headscratcher nevertheless. Makes me wonder if they might lose Fox in North Platte, since Sinclair has Fox in most of the Cornhusker state.
