WXIA 11 Alive Sports Director Fred Kalil is stepping down. Kalil said that complications from brain surgery 13 years ago make it difficult for him to anchor sports on the evening newscasts, a role he has held for 22 years.

“Reading the prompter has never been a lot of fun for me. Before I could remember what I was supposed to say. Now I can’t remember what I was supposed to say,” he said Tuesday on the evening newscast (video above). “It stinks. It stinks. It’s tough. It really is. I can’t tell you how hard it is to go out there and after every single show to think well, I did something — there’s something I can’t do now. I used to be able to do all this stuff in my sleep.”

Kellie Patterson is leaving WCNC for another, unannounced anchoring position. She joined WCNC in 2010. Also, WBTV has hired a new reporter, Pamela Escobar.

I wonder if they are going to have Anjanette Flowers return as the Morning Anchor again.

Wonder if it could possibly be WJZY. They may mostly be looking for Fox people but could be a possibility. It might be a little early for them to hire an anchor though.

Maybe, but she probably has a no-compete clause in her contract.

KJRH has fired chief meteorologist Dan Threlkeld. According to a post on his Facebook page, Threlkeld was escorted out of the building by station management yesterday afternoon, before he was supposed to give an on-air farewell tomorrow. His successor, former KSHB meteorologist Brett Anthony, starts next month.

You beat me to the punch, however Brett Anthony is still here. What I want to know though are what these "clashes" he said he and management had and what exactly they saw in Brett Anthony to lure him down there.

I don't think it makes too much of a difference when KOTV dominates ratings in Tulsa.

Is it a promotion? You judge, but Sheila Gray, who just recently left WXIX, is going to work for Sinclair. She'll be doing a syndicated report for the entire station group based out of Dayton while also doing some reporting for WKEF-WRGT.

It's highly likely that the Dayton choice was made to allow SBG to circumvent Gray's non-compete clause; she can't work in Cincinnati until February.

News from Phoenix: It appears that KPNX has dropped the 12:30 "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" airing that leads out of news to add 30 minutes to "Arizona Midday," the "lifestyle" show produced by their Sales Department. I don't know if this is temporary until new programming takes place, but knowing how the Phoenix television stations operate, it probably will be permanent. That leaves 1pm as a daytime TV "graveyard" in Phoenix (KTVK has picked up "America Now" and KNXV airs "Right This Minute" - both low-budget syndicated product).

Beginning September 16, WMC is shortening its Noon newscast to 30 minutes, in order to fill its commitment to the god awful "America Now", that will then begin airing at 12:30. It previously aired for one hour at 11 AM, but Katie is being moved to that time to make room for the Queen Latifah Show.

TVSpy has some more news and details on the new newscasts coming to WPMI and WJTC in Mobile:

  • Pat Greenwood will anchor the 4:30am newscast solo. New co-anchor Kelly Jones will join him from 5am-7am. He will also continue to anchor the noon news, but the noon news will be expanding to a full hour and Kelly Jones will be anchoring the new 12:30 portion solo. These changes will happen on September 9th.

  • Greg Peterson will anchor the new 6:30 WJTC newscast solo but.....WJTC is ALSO adding a 9pm show on September 23rd which will feature both Kym Thurman and Greg Peterson. This will be the THIRD 9pm news in the market after sister station WFGX (WEAR) started one in August and WALA's long-established 9pm show.

  • WPMI/WJTC GM Bobby Totsch also hinted at ADDING a 10:00 news on WJTC, but with no details. (I'm thinking that they could possibly simulcast WPMI's newscast since doing a separate live newscast from WPMI/WJTC's facility would be next to impossible.) Removed from the TVSpy story....I thought it was highly unlikely anyways.

  • WPMI/WJTC also hired two new reporters, Stephen Quinn as a field reporter and Jordan Early as a social media reporter.

Here's the story....http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/wpmi-and-wjtc-adding-news-and-talent_b102505

Portia Young has left WISN after 10 years for a better opportunity. She was recently shifted to weekend mornings from weekday mornings. On her facebook page she says, " Many if you are wondering why I left, some of you know, for the others, I'll just say something better came along. I hope you have a safe, wonderful day. Cheers! "
