WWL will be scaling back the "Eyewitness Morning News" starting December 5. Currently airing 4:30 - 9 am, it will run from 4:30 - 7 am.

That same day, "CBS Morning News" - currently airing on WUPL - will air on WWL from 7-9 am.

From a release back in June from WWL's website, its morning show will be split. The 7-9am portion will be moved to WUPL 54.

Little follow up. Here's the promo of WWL's morning change.

As mentioned before, WWL will air CBS This Morning starting this Monday at 7am, shifting the 7-9am block of its local AM news to its sister-station WUPL. But also mentioned in the promo that it will also have a "brand new look". Could this also mean WWL will finally get the tweaked L3s that the other Tegna stations are using in the mornings?

You would think it would only be a matter of time before they give in to air CTM. But for a station with a morning show with heavy vieweship, this doesn't make it right. It is a shame that the station have to abide by the corporate master to air the national show on 4. I would've said different if their AM show was getting bad numbers, but obviously that wasn't the case. The show was top notch, and probably one of the best in the country. Corporate influence over station interest (& even viewer interest). Wouldn't be surprised if WVUE would benefit from this move.

CBS is trying to make something of its morning show and is clearly getting somewhere in that effort. Obtaining clearance from holdout affiliates who have had local programs in that hour for an eternity is probably a priority for the network.

But the entire 4:30-9am block will now be seen on WUPL Channel 54, so its not like the continuous block is dead or having to split and click channels after a certain point.

True but the majority of the viewership is on channel 4, so most people will have to tune to 54 at around 6:58 or 6:59 to watch the whole show.

Yeah thats true but look at the positives and see that WUPL will still be carrying the entire block so its not like you have to switch channels if you want to. But for sure, Channel 4 is where the majority of the viewership is so it'll be a tough act to follow with this change.

There may have been threats from CBS of pulling their affiliation? Even though they shouldn't be trying to bully one of their top affiliates especially when there isn't a good alternative for CBS to place their affiliation (would they really jump to WGNO and give ABC a life preserver in NOLA by moving from a dog station to the market leader? Can't see WDSU or WVUE switching).

Rumor has it that Gary Amble of KCTV has been re-promoted to chief meteorologist after being demoted to weekday mornings over a decade ago. In the meanwhile, Chris Suchan, the now apparently former chief, may have either been demoted to weekends or let go. Such a shame, because he was quite well-liked in the city.

WSMV and WTVF already do this and have been doing so for years.

WSM(V)'s 6:30 news started in 1973. WTVF followed suit in 1989. Did WSMV even try to land Wheel of Fortune because of Pat Sajak's connection to them?

And due to the glut of news, even WZTV airs syndication staples including Judge Judy and Jeopardy! Wheel airs on WKRN.

'SMV did have the rights to Wheel and Jeopardy (and hometown fave Oprah!) I seem to recall that they aired Jeopardy middays, and Wheel at 5 PM (Or vice versa)

Maybe not that sinister. Chances are it was a condition of the renewal on the affil agreement...AKA a "rider" on the contract.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Yes, the whole block will now be aired on 54. But viewers are not being TOLD that. They're only being told that the 4:30-7am block is on 4, and then change it to 54 after 7am. They're not being told that the earlier block will be simulcasted on 54. You don't want to alienate the viewers on "The Mothership" (that's where the lion share of their ratings comes from). But it's already been done by removing the 7-9am block from the mothership. There'll no doubt be some viewer confusion come Monday morning.

Just hope that 4 doesn't air CBS This Morning on the day of Mardi Gras.

I assume they'll probably remind people at the bottom of the 6 o'clock hour about the switch for the next few weeks. Regular watchers will have no problem.

Losing viewers to the simulcast on WUPL wouldn't be that big of a deal. As long as 4:30 to 7 is a straight simulcast, they can ask Nielsen to combine the ratings for both stations into a single line and assign that line to the primary station (WWL). Stations in other markets have been doing that for years, including our local NBC/CW duopoly in the mornings.

Calling it now...KFXF full power is spectrum/shaft bait.

I think the full-power KFXF is going to be shut down for spectrum.

Zero chance of that happening. KFXF is not needed as part of the reverse auction and wasn't even offered an opening bid price.

It will either be shut down or donated/sold on the cheap.

Okay. We all heard last week that WSBT will be producing WNWO's newscasts.

Now FTVLive posted this morning that Scranton's WOLF's Sinclair-produced newscast could also be produced out of WSBT.

On the promo it hinted a brand new look. Well, believe it or not, their brand new look is their brand new morning SET!!!

Personally, I doubt that. I think that was a Tegna move, since WWL's affiliation isn't up for renewal for a couple of years.

SN: I thought they did the 7-9 am block from "The 504" set, but it's actually a new set.

Small news expansion. This one is in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Gray's LP Fox station WZAW is now airing a half-hour 4pm newscast. It is produced by its full-power CBS station WSAW.

I'll report on that in an hour on my blog.

I'll report on it tomorrow. Its the second 4:00pm newscast in the market, just after WJFW 12's "NewsWatch 12 - Up North at 4:00" which debuted last year.
