* KFMB 8 (CBS) morning weathercaster Vanessa Bezic has been missing in action for more than a month now. The station is being tight lipped on her whereabouts and her bio is still on their website. In an interesting move, former morning meteorologist Natasha Stenbock is back with KFMB filling in on the morning show (She used to do weather in the morning from 2005-2009).

Vanessa is no longer with the station, and Natasha was recently tapped as her full-time replacement. Word is Vanessa cleaned out her desk one day and left without saying anything, then eventually broke her contract. She's the second on-air personality to leave the morning show in recent weeks. Feature reporter Nathalie Basha left the station in May, 4 months after being hired. Alicia Summers has taken on her duties.

Wow, that is very strange. A lot of people were posting on KFMB's facebook page asking about her whereabouts for the last two months or so and the station made no mention of it, and when the talent was asked they simply replied that she was off for a while. It's strange for an on-air personality to just simply vanish from one day to the next, hopefully everything goes well for her. Natalie Basha was surprising as well, as you mentioned she had only been there for a few months (3 at the most?). Natasha seems to be well liked by Dan and Nichelle as well as the public, so that's a step in the right direction. If only they could get rid of that crappy music and graphics. When the average joe starts to complain on facebook that your music is bad, then it's really bad.

Eric Phillips has migrated up 85 from WSB to sister WSOC in Charlotte to be their weekend anchor.

Anjanette Flowers, noon anchor at WCNC, just had a baby girl. They announced it yesterday and showed a picture on the air at the end of the noon news.

And WBTV traffic reporter/part time noon weather girl Katie Garner's last day is today. She will be at the Columbus ABC station...sadly a Sincrap station. They're still looking for another traffic person.

WDAF Catches ‘Royals Fountain Lady’ in VO Before Her Famous and Illegal Romp

By Kevin Eck on August 6, 2013 4:51 PM

WDAF_08-05-2013_18.10.37.jpeg

When Jessica McCoy crawled into a fountain at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium while the hometown Royals were playing the Minnesota Twins, she may have stumbled into viral video history but was still safely out of TVSpy’s local TV jurisdiction.

But when an alert anchor and producer at Kansas City FOX affiliate WDAF figured out McCoy had appeared in a VO the station did before her fountain appearance, we had to get involved.

Last night, McCoy, dubbed the “Royals Fountain Lady,” was arrested after spending a few minutes exploring the stadium fountains during a game. Video of the incident surfaced on the web, particularly on Deadpsin.com. WDAF producer Rob Zerwekh was alerted by anchor Nick Vasos that McCoy looked like a woman seen in reporter Brad Underwood‘s VO from the night before (pictured).

Zerwekh tweeted the news out this morning saying, “@Deadspin We may have had the Kauffman Stadium fountain lady in pregame VO yesterday here at FOX 4. Same? Different?”

McCoy was booked into jail for trespassing, resisting arrest and soliciting an officer. Kansas City Police said she propositioned officers in an attempt to avoid charges. Zerwekh told TVSpy, McCoy repeatedly denied the solicitation charges when asked about it by Underwood who caught up with her after being released.

“We talked to you yesterday when you guys were tailgating,” said Underwood who followed McCoy as she was leaving jail. “What happened last night?”

“I was drunk. What do you think happened?” McCoy said. When Underwood asked if her friends were going to pick her up, she replied, “We’ll see if I have any left.”

Here’s the photo progression of McCoy’s night courtesy of Deadspin. From left to right, WDAF story/fountains/mugshot tweeted out by KC police:

I like how you can clearly see the drink in the second photo and for her honesty that she was drunk. :D

  • Ashley Bridges has been promoted to weekend evening anchor for Augusta, GA, ABC affiliate WJBF NewsChannel 6. Before coming to WJBF in August 2012, she was a booker and field producer for ABC’s “20/20″ and “Good Morning America.” In addition to anchoring the 6:00, 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. weekend shows, Bridges will continue to report and act as South Carolina bureau chief during the week.

  • After almost three decades at ABC 7 KMGH, Bertha Lynn will sign off this week. Lynn, who anchors the 11 a.m. newscast, has accepted a job as the executive director of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation at Denver. Her last day at the anchor desk will be August 9. Lynn has worked on-air in Denver since 1976. Before joining KMGH, she worked as an anchor and reporter at KBTV (now KUSA). She was inducted into the Broadcast Professionals Hall of Fame in 2010.

  • Tulsa's FOX 23 KOKI is adding a 6:00 p.m. newscast to its lineup beginning in September. KOKI news director Suzanne Nadell told TVSpy, “We’re excited to offer another half hour of local news and weather to the Tulsa community. We’ll be the only Tulsa station to offer 90 minutes of local news in the early evening.” The newscast will be anchored by the 5:00, 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. news anchors, Clay Loney & Shae Rozzi.

KFMB sure is doing a great job of ignoring their viewers on social media. First, the March Madness/"E/I" controversy, now this.

Good!! I dunno how many folks watches Jeopardy on that early 11am timeslot, after TPIR. But kudos to KTVT for returning the midday news.

It looks like we may not have a triopoly, at least for one station being sold.

From the paperwork posted this morning (4/1), WCWG is being sold by Lockwood Broadcast Group for $2.75 mil.

Follow-Up on the WCWG/Lockwood deal. The FCC has gave its greenlight earlier today.

If they wanted to they could move Young and the Restless to 11 and air the news at noon but they probably don't want to upset viewers.

The CBS O&O's in the central time zone usually try to air Young and the Restless at the same exact time as their east coast stations (12:30 pm est/11:30 am cst). WBBM has an 11 AM newscast for that same reason. KTVT however has just showed Jeopardy in that timeslot. Either it's being moved (not sure when unless they cut CBS 11 News at 4 to a half hour) or another station is picking it up.

Actually, Jeopardy! normally aired at 11am on CBS 11 is moved to KTXA 21, and it would be seen for a full hour from 5:30-6:30pm.

Right now, Well, before 11am today, Jeopardy was aired at 11am on 11 & 6pm on 21. I assume the double Jeopardy run is temporary, until the new schedule comes in the fall.

New Retrans Battle!! This time its Time Warner Cable & Journal.

B&C is posting that Time Warner & Journal have until June 30 to come up with a new deal or the Journal stations will be yank. It includes Journal's flagship station WTMJ.

Time Warner is pointing out that Journal is seeking 200% of their programming, and has taking a stance on broadcasters' egregious demands from without delivering more value.

WTMJ has been off for the past two weeks and now the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel states that three TWC customers have filed a class-action lawsuit because of the lost of Channel 4.

With the retrans fights getting so fierce, the consumer is the true losers in all of this. Even if they get the deal done, the consumer is going to see a rate increase. So that's a double whammy.
