Emily Miller is gone from WTTG. She was the chief investigative reporter. FTVLive reported that earlier this month the was working on a story about a charter school that had a black / white segregated fountain that was spiked after the dean complained. Apparently she promoted the story even after it was canned and hadn't been seen since.

Emily is also a pro gun advocate (I'm not against guns but think there should be controls) who has spoken at the Maryland state house and wrote a book entitled Emily Gets Her Gun: But Obama Wants to Take Yours . Surprisingly the station had no problem with their chief investigative reporter taking a stance on this controversial issue.

And they also had no problem with her fabricating the home invasion that "inspired" her to be a pro-gun advocate, but I digress.

Ch-ch-ch-changes at WAVY/WVBT...

  1. Anita Blanton, currently the weekday 4 and 5:30 PM anchor, will be replacing Nicole Livas on the 5, 6, 10 and 11 PM newscasts alongside Tom Schaad. As was mentioned here a few months back, Livas recently left the station to join her husband in the Washington D.C. area. Blanton's replacement at 4 and 5:30 will be Laura Caso, formerly of WTLV/WJXX, whose first day is today.
  2. Caso and current weekend evening anchor Deanna LeBlanc will be the anchors of a new 30 minute 7 PM newscast on WVBT, to premiere March 28th. This will compete with an existing 7 PM show on WGNT, produced by WTKR.
  3. Brandi Cummings, currently a weekday reporter, will replace LeBlanc on weekend evenings, in addition to her reporting duties.

(source)

And speaking of Hampton Roads, VARTV is reporting that WTKR/WGNT anchor Laila Muhammad will be moving to Dallas to co-anchor Tribune's EyeOpener. Her last day is tomorrow, March 4th.

VARTV.com's Twitter is reporting that Nadeen Yanes (pronounced Yah-nez) is joining WKMG Local 6 in Orlando. Her last day at WTKR/WGNT was yesterday. Before WTKR, she was on WRIC here in Richmond.

Doesn't suprise me if they do this at all, and to top it off, they still don't have demarco's replacement and ''not confirmed'' Brenda wood is contemplating retirement soon, she has been in the ATL since '88 and in news since '78 and WAAY in Huntsville at least. Ditto for Jeff hullinger, Weeknight Anchor;Sports Director/Anchor who has been at WXIA since 2010 but has been in ATL since '84 also at WAGA and Started in St. Lake City at KSL in the late 70's as well

Hattiesburg/Laurel, MS market residents are left confused as to what has happened to WDAM's Miranda Beard. She was the morning/midday anchor and Asst. News Director and has been with the station for at least 30+ years. It appears that her last day at Ch. 7 was February 25. Calls, email, etc. to the station from viewers have gone unanswered.

Beard sent local media a press release stating that she will answer the $1,000,000 question on Sunday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. at a press conference.

*SPOILER ALERT*

There's no need for a conference because this woman has figured it out:

If I am not mistaken that's a volunteer position. I also saw her on the faculty/staff section of the Laurel School District. She has been involved with local education in Laurel/Jones County for years.

There are some people who work for that long at a station and refuse to have any kind of tribute, etc., but this is not one of those instances. Hattiesburg Patriot's Facebook page has a ton of speculations as to what has happened, but nothing confirmed. That's why she will hold a press conference so the people who have watched her for all these years will hear it from her.

We missed this one. Last December, KRGV reporter/anchor Melissa Correa left the station after four years to join KHOU 11 in Houston. Before KRGV, she was on WWBT here in Richmond and before that, KOSA in Midland-Odessa. You may remember Correa from the show Making News: Texas Style on TV Guide Channel (now Pop) back in 2007.

KUSI 9 Kristen Cusato weekend anchor bio scrubbed off the website and lately Brandi Williams (pictured) has been filling in. Any word on Brandi being the permanent one for the weekend?!

She could be. After all, Kristen did leave KUSI where according to Cision... "to manage communications for the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discover Institute."

In other words, Kristen loves San Diego and was considered as a star at KUSI while there. And if Brandi does take over, then good for her.

Kristen left in December. Brandi has been the main fill in but AFAIK hasn't been made permanent. They had Sasha Foo anchor a few weeks ago for 2-3 weeks or so.

December? Well then she did fill-ins ending of January and first week of sweeps. But didn't realize she left that long ago

Her KUSI Twitter went silent on Dec. 31st, but I believe she stayed on an extra week at the station. So she's been gone for two months, at least.

Miranda Beard revealed at a press conference Sunday afternoon that after WDAM received a tweet of a slide she used at a conference in Jackson after visiting her parents in TN she was escorted out of the building once she returned to work. News Director Nick Ortego and General Manager Joe Sciortino escorted Beard out of the building after they accused her of lying about her trip to Tennessee.

Viewers are expressing their outrage on the station's Facebook page calling a boycott of channel 7.

Now that's just plain pitiful.

So going to a speaking engagement in Jackson after visiting your ailing parents in TN means you're a liar? I mean, why in the hell would she lie about that? Hell, she even showed pictures of her very sick father at the press conference on Sunday, but was never given an opportunity to show proof to her bosses. They obviously didn't care about seeing her side of things. They only cared about trying to find a slick way to push this veteran & well-liked personality out the door. And that's just sad.

I wished she would file a wrongful termination lawsuit against these two assholes for firing her.

I expect a lawsuit at some point. There's already a job listing on Raycom's website as of 2-29. Also, there's a listing for a GM on Raycom's website for WDAM (listed prior to these events).

Management had their minds made up a long time ago that they wanted her out, but they needed a "legal" way to do it. I'm certain of it.

It's been heavily-speculated here, but now it's official.

TVNewsCheck posted minutes ago that WDCW will have a new 10pm newscast beginning April 18th.

The new 10pm newscast will be produced out of Richmond's WTVR, with reporters & multimedia journalists being based out of DC. The anchor will be WTVR's 6 & 11pm anchor Candace Burns.

WDAM is essentially the only game in town....aside from the half-station efforts put on by Media General and Waypoint Media.

At one time WHLT had a full blown news operation, but low advertiser support shut it down.

That's the problem in small markets like Hattiesburg...a station literally OWNS the market, and once the competition tries....and later fails, the dominant station prevails and become untouchable and can do as it pleases....

Sure they wanted her out.

But her appearance in front of the school leaders was not sanctioned by the station and to many looks like a severe ethics violation for a journalist....

Was she paid for her speech?

And that alone will get you fired from just about any station.

She should have know better

Following the trend like the other Hearst stations, KCCI will add a new 9pm newscast on its Me-TV subchannel, beginning March 21.

WXII, KETV, WCVB, WLWT, WLKY, WBAL, WMUR, WPTZ and WGAL are the ones that broadcasts local news on their MeTV subchannels. WTAE broadcasts their 7:00pm weeknight newscast on their This TV subchannel.

Btw, what a surprise for KCCI to do this on Me-TV and not on their MyTV subchannel which is also home to H&I.
