Retrans Battle Again!!!! This time is Time Warner Cable & LIN Media.

Multichannel.com is posting that if a deal doesn't get reached by Friday, May 31st at 5pm/ET, the stations in 14 markets including Buffalo, Green Bay and Hawaii will lose their signals on the cable carrier. TWC stated that LIN is seeking a 50% increase of retransmission fees after they'd reached a deal two years prior. TWC stated that it was hopeful that it can make a deal by that time, but LIN isn't saying anything, at this time.

An interesting article on WGAL's new GM ... from the article ... "Shortly after taking the job late last fall, Humphries said in a company press release, "I feel like someone gave me the keys to the Bentley and said don't bring it back with a scratch on it."

That's the first local news of any variety on WXXV since the late 1990s, which itself was the second go-around for local news on that outlet: they aired "Mississippi News Tonight", simulcasted from Jackson's WDBD, in 1991 and 1992.

Just days after wishing Tom Mahoney farewell, WFRV today welcomed another Green Bay WX legend back to TV. Former WLUK meteorologist John Chandik made his Local 5 debut this morning. Given the choice of words at the top of the broadcast, it sounds as though he's not just there on a temporary/"fill-in" basis.

ETA: They mentioned later on in the show that he is there just as a weekend fill-in until they hire a new meteorologist. Still nice to see him back on TV, though!

Big changes were made at the 7News anchor desk today, Reid Lamberty is out as anchor at Boston's 7 NBC. The primary anchor left Bulfinch Place after two years. After bouncing around various markets, Lamberty landed at 7 in 2011, co-anchoring the station’s weeknight newscasts alongside Kim Khazei. Lamberty’s bio has been stripped from the WHDH website, and no word on who will replace Lamberty as anchor.

Gil Tyree, former sports director/anchor of WGCL CBS 46 is now the new main sports director/anchor of WATN Local 24.

I noted this in the WATN thread as well, but one side note - he is not the sports director, just their main weekday anchor. WATN has had a sports director for a while now that works primarily off-air (unusual I know).

Despite with all the media company mergers including the Gannett/Belo merger, let's focus on the coming and goings in the media markets.

  • KTXS News 12 Managing Editor George Levesque moves to 10:00pm anchor along side Wayne McCormick, Braid Sharp (Blanks) will move from 10:00pm anchor to 5:00pm anchor, she'll continue to anchor the 6:00 news with McCormick. The station said she wanted to spend more time with her family.

  • Columbia's NBC Station WIS-TV and Cincinnati's CBS station WKRC-TV are both launching Sunday morning newscasts. WIS NBC 10's hour-long 10am newscasts will be anchored by Chelsea Washington and Meteorologist Tim Miller, while WKRC CBS 12 launching a hour-long newscasts at 8:00am and then again for a half-hour at 11:00am. Just read on the Twitters that WISN's Luke Sampe will be taking the chief meteorologist job at WFRV. Not sure when he'll be starting. He's not entirely a stranger to the Green Bay market; his bio mentions an intern stint at WGBA.
