WISH-TV 8 Chief Meteorologist Steve Bray is now officially named News Director. “Steve’s varied and experienced background in news and weather, as well as his dedication to being a first informer with digital and on-air, makes him the ideal candidate to lead our news department,” said WISH president and general manager Jeff White.

“Steve has made a tremendous positive impact in every one of his many roles at WISH-TV. I look forward to this success continuing as news director.”

Bray has been interim news director for the Indianapolis CBS affiliate since the departure of Patti McGettigan in August. He joined WISH in 1995, working his way up the ranks after being promoted chief meteorologist in 1999, then news operations manager in 2009 and assistant news director in 2011.

However, (I think) while Bray continues to do the weather at 5:30pm, there is still no word on who will take Bray's place as Chief Meteorologist.

From this FCC Consummation Paper, posted this morning (12/11), you can basically say adios to ACME Communications, since it no longer owns any TV stations, at this point. Tamer Media has commenced operations on KRWB 19/KWBQ 21 (CW) & KASY 50 (MyNetworkTV). LIN will continue to provided some of its services for the two stations. ACME still controls its morning program The Daily Buzz.

No word if ACME will give up its production of program solely to Fisher or to another firm.

WJLA has stated the founder of the station's parent company, Joe L. Allbritton has passed away at the age of 87. Not only he was a media legend, he was also a banker.

Condolences go to his son, Robert and the rest of his family. Joe's 88th birthday would've been two weeks from Saturday.

Another station transaction has been finalized. From this FCC consummation paper posted this morning (12/17), WTVF NewsChannel 5 (CBS) in Nashville is now under the control of Journal Broadcast Group. The consummation actually happened on December 6th, but the notice was just posted today on the website.

I hope Journal can keep most things at WTVF a status quo. After all, they are the "two-ton King Kong" of the market.

Antonio Mora is out at the Miami's CBS 4 WFOR after his contract was not renewed. According to sfltv.com, the move was no surprise,Tipsters told us he may be on the way out but that his contract was into its third year and past the ’out clause’ period so WFOR had to wait for it to run out, which just happened. Mora joined WFOR from Chicago CBS owned station WBBM in 2008. Before working for WBBM, he was on the news desk for “Good Morning America.” Mora had been the solo anchor for WFOR’s 6 p.m. newscast.

Okay, yet another station group transaction has been consummated. And this one hasn't been mentioned on this site. It appears that Bonten Media has completed its acquisition of Northern California Fox Affiliates KCVU in Chico & KBVU in Eureka; MyNetworkTV affiliates KRVU in Redding, KZVU in Chico & KEMY in Eureka; Plus several other low-power stations in both markets (including three Chico/Redding stations that affiliates Univision, Telefutura & Telemundo, respectively) from Sainte Partners. Since Bonten already owns ABC affilates KRCR 7 in Redding & KAEF 23 in Eureka, KCVU & KBVU will be assigned to Esteem Broadcasting (which also owns WEMT & WFXI/WYDO), while KRVU/KZVU/KEMY & several other LPs will be assigned to a new shell, California Broadcasting. All stations involved will be operated by KRCR under shared services agreements.

Sainte Partners continues to own KCSO (Telemundo) in Sacramento & KFBI (MyNetworkTV) in Medford. At least for now.

Gray is purchasing WDON-LP in Dothan, AL from New Moon Communications...

http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/64441/station-trading-roundup-2-deals-120000

At one time, they purchased several low powered stations around the country in markets where NBC did not have an affiliated station, with the intention of turning the stations into NBC affiliates.

Methinks that Gray is going to follow through on the original plan to bring a low-powered NBC station to Dothan by way of WTVY, much like the way that Gray brought a CBS affiliate to neighboring market Panama City through the facilities of WJHG. WTVY in Dothan served as the CBS station for Panama City until WECP-LD's sign-on, and NBC has come in to Dothan by way of WSFA in Montgomery, and WJHG in Panama City.

Omaha NBC station WOWT Channel 6 Chief Meteorologist Jim Flowers will not have his contract renewed when it expires next week. WOWT, announced the move on its facebook page saying:

"WOWT has informed Jim Flowers that it does not intend to enter into a new agreement for his services when his current agreement expires on December 31, 2012. WOWT appreciates Jim’s contributions to WOWT and thanks him for his many years of service."

Flowers has been a meteorologist in Omaha for nearly 30 years. He previously worked for Omaha ABC affiliate KETV.

And this is a very difficult out and about to report, if you grew up watching Salt Lake City's KSL 5 over the years, you properly know his name Dick Norse. Norse, who retired as news anchor at KSL-TV in 2007, has recently been diagnosed with throat cancer.

“(My family’s) support, including that shown by members of my extended “TV family,” was key to my recovery during my first battles with cancer, and it is a great source of strength for me now,” Nourse said in a statement posted to the station’s website. “My wife, Deb, and I are extremely grateful. We know we’ll get through this.”

This is the third battle with cancer for the retired anchor who left the NBC affiliate in 2007. He overcame non-Hodgkins lymphoma in the early 1980s and later survived a bout with prostate cancer.

The station said Nourse will soon begin radiation treatment and chemotherapy. We here at TVNT ask that you keep Dick Norse and his family in your prayers.

Katie Nordeen has been named evening co-anchor at Winston-Salem's FOX 8 WGHP. Nordeen joined the Fox affiliate in 2010 and was promoted to morning anchor in 2011. Her first night on the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts alongside Neill McNeill is Thursday. Before joining WGHP, Nordeen worked at WDIO in Duluth, Minn., as an anchor and reporter. She replaces Julie Luck, who left WGHP in September.

Sports anchor Matt Barrie is leaving KXAS to join ESPN, according to Dallas media blogger Ed Bark. Barrie joined the NBC-owned station in Dallas in 2008. His final day at KXAS will be March 3. “Matt is a terrific journalist who brought fantastic energy to the NBC5 sports team,” VP of news Susan Tully said. “We’re sorry to see Matt leave, but wish him success in his new network job.”

Erin Logan has been named weekend evening anchor at Hartford's ABC station WTNH. Logan joined the station in 2011 as a general assignment reporter. “In her time here she has proven to be an aggressive reporter and one our leaders in carrying out the brand on-air,” news director Erik Schrader wrote in a memo to WTNH staffers Tuesday. “Before coming to this station, Erin was a weekday anchor earlier in her career, so the combo position accents many of her strengths.”

Two departures over at Spokane's ABC 4 KXLY, Mike Gonzalez, co-anchor for KXLY 4 News, is no longer with the station. The station was going with a single anchor for the 5 and 6 p.m. news. Gonzalez, who was also the host of KXLY’s Latin cultural and cooking show, “En La Cocina,” came to the station from Omaha, NE where he was an anchor and reporter. He previously worked at KOLN-KGIN in Lincoln, NE and KOMU in Columbia, MO.

KXLY has cut a second anchor from its lineup. Sports director Ben Kaplan is the latest to get the ax. “We’re restructuring the sports staff between our TV & radio properties, as we also own the local ESPN radio affiliate,” news director Jerry Post.“Ben has done a tremendous job for us as Sports Director, but this move made the best strategic and financial sense going forward.” The station was looking to Dennis Patchin to lead the sports team for both KXLY and ESPN radio affiliate KXLX. Kaplan joined KXLY from WWSB in Sarasota, FL. He started his career with KFBB in Great Falls, MT.

Peter Albrecht has been re-hired by WKRG after an almost 6 year absence from the airwaves.

He worked for WKRG until 2000 and then was hired at WPMI later that year.

Peter anchored the primary newscasts until 2007, when he was one of the three anchors fired by management in an effort to bring up ratings.

According to a newly created Facebook friend page (WKRG Peter Albrecht), he will be the 5pm anchor and do investigative reporting. Since he is technically replacing Jessica Taloney, who left last year, I wonder if Mel Showers will only anchor the 6 & 10 now?
