A year ago, I posted about ABC 33/40's 24th anniversary.  September 1st marks their 25th Anniversary serving as Birmingham's ABC affiliate.

James Spann posted about it on his Facebook page, and the main difference between this year's post and last years, is that he threw in some good words for Sinclair (in addition to the prior owners, Allbritton) for allowing him to serve Central Alabama with severe weather coverage whenever warranted.

Janice Broach retired last night after 30+ years with WMC in Memphis. Given how sudden the announcement was and the fact that she wasn't at all involved in the story (they kept saying she had already "signed off for the final time"), I do hope this was her decision. Either way, the station put together a nice retrospective: https://www.actionnews5.com/2021/09/02/janice-broach-signs-off-action-news-5-after-more-than-3-decades-telling-your-stories/

Dale Hansen signed off one final time on WFAA tonight.

But the opening of tonight's 10pm got me. They reenacted the 'Taxi' promo he did when he left KDFW 4 for Channel 8 over 38 years ago. And they brought in longtime VO guy John B. Wells to drive the Taxi.

Rachel Coulter joins WBTV from WLBT. Right now she will be on in the mornings. Al Conklin says she is helping out. They will apparently roll with two meteorologists in the mornings but I’m thinking Al becomes Chief Meteorologist when Eric Thomas retires and Rachel takes over permanently in the mornings. They don’t need two meteorologists in the morning. They seem to have hired a good one.

After 53 years in the industry. 40 years in the  San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose market. 30 years at ABC7, Wayne Freedman is retiring.

KGO just did a piece about him and his on air goodbye. This is a big loss following another reporter, Vic Lee who left last year after 50 years in the industry starting at KRON and the last 15 years at KGO.

Two former Tampa Bay TV anchors are working together on a project.

John Wilson and Reginald Roundtree, who both had stints at WTSP, are working together on a project about serial killer Ted Bundy. The story is behind a paywall, regrettably.

At least 2 longtime anchors from Gray stations have been fired over their refusal to get vaccinated.

Dave Platta (Sports Director, WTVM) - https://www.wtvm.com/2021/09/15/long-time-sports-director-dave-platta-leaves-wtvm/

Karl Bohnak (Chief Meteorologist, WLUC) - https://www.dailypress.net/news/local-news/2021/09/bohnak-fired-for-refusal-to-get-vaccinated/

I don't see them getting back into the business, especially not Bohnak - he burnt all his bridges with his statement going full QAnon.

3 hours ago, ScottJ said:

WNYT/Albany has named its latest weekday morning anchor team. The station's longtime weekend sports anchor Chris Onorato will be co-anchoring with new hire Faith King, who is coming to the station from WAVE in Louisville. The new team starts September 27.

May this Louisville hire work better than the last (ex-WHAS'er Paulina Bucka who left after only four months).
