Veteran talent gets paid more. They seem to have less and less interest in maintaining viewer relationships or talent continuity, and more in doing everything as cheaply as they can.

In addition to saving on veteran talent salary and benefits, younger talent is seen as more compliant about doing the crap that owners like Tegna foist on viewers like their obsession with social media.

Has anybody simply tried offering the veteran talent less money to stay? Sure you can purge them but if you can make them cheaper instead of canning them I’d try that...

That's often an invitation to an age discrimination lawsuit. Early retirement is seen as a cheaper way of easing out older talent.

I’m not a lawyer but that argument doesn’t sound like it would be easy to prove... at the same time I know of at least one guy that offered to work for $1 and was rebuffed... at a certain point you almost have to take that kind of offer... at least until you can properly ease them out.

So how about not renewing at the end of a contract?

With the most highly-contested US Senate race in the country underway, WMTW is adding a 7PM Saturday newscast on its CW-affiliated sister station WPXT starting August 31. Gotta grab as many of those sweet 2020 campaign dollars as you can...

August 31st is a Saturday.

I think I understand why the 7pm show is on WPXT. ABC is probably going to air another pre-game show at 7pm in between the end of the 3:30pm college football game and Saturday Night Football, in which this year, all the games will air at 7:30pm (instead of 8pm).

The good thing about that 7:30 start time, is that local stations in the eastern half of the country can finally (for the most part) get their late show in on time, instead of waiting to close to midnight on some weeks.

There's a difference between an older employee volunteering to work for peanuts versus receiving an insult offer to stay aboard.

Usually it's the lucky combination of a veteran talent cutting back on their hours (going part time).  Less hours, less money, especially if it's in a subsequent contract when they're inching towards retirement.

In addition to the Susan Collins Senate race in Maine, there's a Senate race in New Hampshire where Jeanne Shaheen will be seeking re-election to a third term.

You do have a point—there's also a certain presidential primary.

She's done after 23 years.

Norma Holland has left 13WHAM (and better yet, the Sinclair demigods) for a job with a local online marketing company.

She announced that she was leaving on Tuesday and I didn't see that here on the forums.

Took a quick trip to Boston this weekend and noticed a few things while at my stay in Beantown.

Noticed that the graphics at NBC Boston are similarly different to WNBC & WRC (DC)  However, graphics are pretty much in line with the other O&O's.

and the same can be said with WBZ with their graphics and title, a bit bigger than WCBS TV.

Horrific story out of Atlanta and New York. A WNBC intern, Erin Edwards, who worked with the digital team this summer killed in a murder suicide, her mother shot her and her brother before turning the gun on herself. My condolences to her family, fellow students and employees at WNBC.

Tom Crabtree is no longer at WSPA and that's because he's now retired.

45 years in broadcasting and 31 of those on Carolina's Family. Don't worry, his band will still perform.

KTLA Morning News weather man Henry DiCarlo is off the air for a few weeks to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer last month. Sending him prayers and good vibes. He's a bright spot every morning.

See, this is important to get screened for cancer and get checked. Steve Eagar (KDFW), Dallas Raines (KABC) have beaten prostate cancer because of early detection. And I'm praying for Henry and hopefully be more than a 100% healthy. Let's pray for ones who beaten cancer, and let's pray for the ones are no longer with us who fought cancer, one of them is Gary Papa (WPVI). Please remember, Almost 175,000 men get diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and about 30,000 die every year. Black men have A 60% increased risk. Getting a PSA test means early discovery. If you are 45+ and haven’t had a PSA test, get one. It’s a blood test. Easy. No pain. Do it!

Pray for Steve Eagar and for Henry DeCarlo.

Hugs and Prayers, Steve and Henry. God Bless.

WFSB is launching a 4:30 PM newscast on September 9th. This just broke yesterday so no idea what they are slotting at 4:00 PM, this year at least.

Appears Dr. Oz moving from 4pm to 3pm, and Better Connecticut, which is currently at 3pm and an hour long, is moving to 4pm and being sliced in half to make way for the new 4:30 newscast.

Source on this? This seems a bit odd given how Better Connecticut regularly does well at 3:00 against Dr. Phil on WTNH and Ellen on WVIT and how Dr. Oz has seemingly been in decline.
