I mentioned this in the thread talking about Nexstar getting Media General but, Cox opposes Nexstar buying Media General for some of the same reasons we do, like the potential price rigging to jack it up for example: http://www.broadcastingcable.com/news/currency/cox-plans-oppose-nexstar-media-general/147347

Here's the URL for anybody wanting to warn the FCC to block the Nexstar-Media General merger: https://www.fcc.gov/about/contact

Last night on FB, KOTV/KQCW weeknight 9:00p anchor Chera Kimiko announced that she will "take a break" from TV news and is leaving the station. Kimiko has been in the market since 2002, when KOKI launched its news operation, staying until 2014, when she joined Ch. 6.

Jackson, MS TV icon Bert Case, 76, passed away Thursday afternoon in a Jackson hospital. Bert recently celebrated 50 years in television broadcasting, most notably for his time at WLBT and most recently at WAPT up until his death. He was hospitalized on September 1, 2015 after a diagnosis of sepsis.

Most people around the country know him for chasing off a pit bull in the streets of Jackson or for his investigative reporting into the cheating scandal of former Mississippi Governor Kirk Fordice who had a choice of words for Bert in a confrontational interview at the late-Governor's mailbox in Madison County.

WAPT reports that funeral arrangements are underway at this time.

Please keep the family and the Jackson DMA in your thoughts and prayers.

TVNewsCheck posted that WBAL will expand it's Sunday Night 11pm newscast to a full hour, starting this Sunday.

Wonder what they will be preempting for the extra half hour? Sunday night / Monday AM they air Matter of Fact, Inside Edition Weekend, Monopoly Millionaire, Dateline, Meet The Press and Rizzoli and Isles. I don't think they'll pull Monopoly as I believe it's probably tied to their lottery contract.

That's a good one!! I loved watching Bert from junior high to high school whenever I came to Jackson and at Jackson State. There was no one else like him in Mississippi. I'm sure gonna miss him.

Looks like "Matter of Fact" moves to midnight, bumping "Inside Edition Weekend" to 4:30am Sunday Morning (in turn bumping paid programming to 4am, which apparently bumps "Open House" off the schedule).

Thanks, my TiVo guide has yet to be updated.

As a side note I came across this video for a camera robotics company. This video is from Mark Roberts Motion Control showing their robotic setup for London Live, which is the local TV set up serving London. Anyway in this video aside from the robotics it shows that London Live's studio cameras are actually Nikon DSLR's which to me is a bit surprising. Have any of you seen a similar type of set up as the primary studio camera? I've seen similar cameras used for promo shoots but not in this type of situation.

Former WMC meteorologist Tim Van Horn starts at WHBQ on Monday.

I wonder if he's planned this all along. I hate to suggest that he was lying in his original announcement from when he left TV, but this seems suspiciously like it could be the termination of a non-compete clause.

A decent percentage of "retirement" and "spending time with family" announcements are total crap...

WBAL brought in Rob Roblin in for Maryland State Police's Polar Bear Plunge for today and tomorrow. Today the super plungers started where they go in once an hour for 24 hours. Tomorrow is for the general plungers.

I'll make this the last Bert post. This was six years to the day:

As Janeen Gordon returns to air at WMC on Monday, Lauren Squires is moving back to days for her last month at the station:

Additionally, a new reporter, Tiffany Neely, was on air last night. It appears she most recently worked at WBBJ, also in west TN.
